Navy RB Shun White runs for 348 and 3 TD

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Shun White shocks and awes TowsonAnd we should all thank him for his service to country and the fantasy football world.

Washington Post breaks down the day for a running back that did not appear on our list, but took great advantage of some injuries to simply have a huge day.

Starting QB Kaipo missed the game due to a strained hamstring, so that put top slotback Jarod Bryant under center. With FCS opponent Towson putting 8 in the box often to stop FB Eric Kettani, White had the corner all day long averaging over 17 yards per carry.

UPDATE: U-Sports.com has White listed as a RB/WR, so if you can play him as WR that makes his acquisition even more important. I will guess that your league has rules in place for the slashes like Chad Hall, Freddie Barnes and now Shun, so proceed accordingly.

Follow us on Twitter for Game Day

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

http://www.twitter.com/fcblitz

Vince Mullins pulled opening weekend duties to keep you up to date on our Twitter feed. The rest of the FCB crew is getting soaked at the UCF tailgating festivities thanks to a new guest named Gustav…

Throughout the afternoon and early evening games, follow FCBlitz for college football updates with a fantasy focus.

For instance, did you see that Oklahoma State’s big WR Dez Bryant is returning punts? That adds to his fantasy value above his preseason rank of #10.

Already we have seen some big upsets including Bowling Green over Pitt and East Carolina squeaking by Virginia Tech.

Will Michigan be next or can they hold on versus Utah in Rich Rodriguez’s debut?

If you are a member of Twitter (it’s free!) feel free to share some of your views too – I am in Central Florida so I might be missing some other regional items of interest.

ACC

Boston College Eagles

Boston.com presents an article on August 24, 2008 from The Boston Globe that highlights Boston College tailback Jeff Smith and his attempt to return this season to a position of prominence with the Eagles, this after missing much of last season with back-to-back concussions. Since fall camp, Smith presents himself with speed as a tangible contribution, with head coach Jeff Jagodzinski saying, "Everything. Running, receiving, returns. You name it." The junior will likely split carries with freshman recruit Josh Haden , but still should provide plenty of incentive for fantasy owners to acquire Smith as a potential sleeper all-purpose back out in the ACC.

Clemson Tigers

Fantasy owners looking at the Clemson Tigers for a wide receiver will undoubtedly favor a draft pick on senior Aaron Kelly , but according to The Birmingham News of August, 24, 2008, the player to watch at wideout in 2008 for Tommy Bowden’s squad may very well be the 5’11", 180 pound Tyler Grisham . A lightning-fast slot receiver, Grisham, who carries the nicknames "Little Welker" and "Little Stokely", enters 2008 after a junior year last season in which he grabbed 60 of his career 95 catches for 653 yards and four touchdown. He’s considered a big play maker on offense, and had outstanding days in 2007 against highly ranked opponents, #15 Virginia Tech (11 catches for 100 yards and a score) and Wake Forest (nine receptions for 100 yard and a touchown).

Power I: Specific Week One Strategies for Starting RBs

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

The first week of the season is usually a lot tougher to start the proper running backs than most people realize. However the difficulty exists mainly because of luck so even if you spend a ton of time analyzing the matchups it most often will not help you. Some of you might look at the schedule and see a bunch of lop-sided matchups and say ‘What is so hard about this?’ The problem with these huge mismatched games is that the star running back is not going to get a large work-load so he needs to make the most of his limited carries.

What can you do? Accept the fact that there is more luck involved in Week 1 than any other week of the year and follow these general rule of thumb pointers for choosing running backs to start for this specific week.

College Football Stars on Facebook

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

With the season openers starting, well, NOW, I wanted to finally post the fantasy college football stars and their Facebook Groups.

Become a fan of Fantasy College Blitz - just launched!

Michael Crabtree Is A B.A.M.F. – 1200+ members!

Eugene Jarvis for Heisman – little man with big numbers (right) from my hometown of Akron. (Fantasy Player of the Year, maybe. Heisman at Kent – unlikely, but one can dream)

Graham Harrell – 5000 yards and 50 TDs! Maybe they underestimate the yards.

When Superman Goes to Bed he wears Knowshon Moreno Pajamas
There are tons of Knowshon Groups
Dan LeFevour 4 Heisman
Chris “Beanie” Wells group
Individual page links do you no good until you are accepted as a friend. So a quick list of stars I found:

Nate Davis, Ball State QB- who knew the female talent was so strong in Muncie, Indiana! Or is it the fact they are simply in college?

Graham Harrell QB Texas Tech has 4557 friends – over/under his yards passing on the year?

Zac Robinson, QB Oklahoma State – gotta love the icon.

and of course Tebow is everywhere….
