Big 12 Preview: For All The Marbles

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

It all comes down to this. One week, two teams battling for that top spot in the Big 12 South.

Can we just assume Texas Tech beats Baylor? Okay, assuming that.

Obviously, if Texas A&M upsets Texas once again, the Big 12 South goes to Oklahoma, provided they beat Oklahoma State.

What’s more interesting is what happens if Oklahoma State upsets Oklahoma while Texas Tech and Texas win. Texas Tech would be the Big 12 South champions, but even winning the Big 12 title might not be enough to boost them over Texas and into the BCS Championship. Texas Tech got KILLED by Oklahoma, and the voters are going to remember that. The computers are looking at games against Eastern Washington, Nevada, SMU, and Massachussetts which are tanking the Red Raiders’ average. (except Colley’s, who throws out games against FCS teams. Yay Colley’s Bias-Free Rankings! and by “Bias” we mean “Logic”) I’m not making arguments here; that’s for another post. This is to state objectively that at this point TTU is not going to pass either Texas or OU in the BCS rankings without those teams losing.

BlitzIndex Week 14: Trojan defense near perfect

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

too bad about that loss to the Beavers for your BCS Title Game chances, but on the positive side the USC defense will likely filet the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl.

While Southern Cal again takes the top spot in all three of our defensive categories, the North Texas Mean Green were thisclose to being the Bizarro-Trojans by finishing last in all three categories except yards per point. Washington State saved them the embarrassment by asking opponents to cover less than ten yards for each point scored this year.

And this picture – best big hit photo of the day as Notre Dame (#33 ranked unit) defensive back David Bruton (27) makes a special teams tackle on Syracuse punt returner Ryan Howard (21) during the embarrassing loss this past weekend (thanks ICON SMI).

Whether you are in your fantasy bowl game, need some light reading for the holidays or want to prepare for a weekend of rivalry matchups check out our exclusive defense rankings. Read the rest of this entry →

MAC Recap: Nick’s Picks

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

NIU at Kent State

Actual Score: NIU 42 – Kent State 14

Nick’s Pick: NIU 21 – Kent State 18

Pre Game Comment: Something has to give tonight as Kent State is one of the best rushing teams in the MAC versus a NIU defense that is one of the best against the run. The Huskies are still playing for a possible bowl bid and need this game more than the Golden Flashes. While KSU does have a team more talented than their record indicates, they have been a hard luck team for two-straight seasons losing several nail-biters. This could be another potential Kent State win that gets away.

Post Game Comment: NIU scored 21-points in the 3rd quarter to break open a close game. Kent State continue their fumble issues losing three of four. NIU had nearly a 10-minute advantage in time of possession in a snowy mid-weeknight game in cold and blustery NE Ohio.

ADAM DIMICHELE…This Week’s Army “Find Your Strength” Player Of The Week

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

The United States Army has been a pioneer in many non-combat fields, most notably, medicine.  From Army Doctor William Beaumont’s studies into the digestive process, to breakthrough research in the treatment of HIV-AIDS, the U.S. Army has been a leader in the field of medical research.  Also, much of that research has been able to return soldiers…whether back on-duty or into civilian life.,.with fewer disabilities and less suffering.

This week’s Army “Find Your Strength” Player of the Week, Temple QB Adam DiMichele, suffered a devastating leg injury during the 2007 season, breaking his leg in several places.  The Owls QB has returned in fine form this season, and had his best career day in a 55-52 win over Eastern Michigan…throwing for 370 yards and 6 TDs.

Adam DiMichele, this week’s Army “Find Your Strength” Player of the Week.
