Kickoff Week means FCB BLOG DAY LIVE Tulsa at Tulane

Monday, August 31st, 2009

I know that every sense of your being embraces the beginning of college football season.

The smell of tailgate cookouts, the sound of 90,000 screaming fans, the taste of your favorite beverage, and the sights of a perfectly executed speed option.

If you can think of a good one for touch, let me know because my tactile thoughts were all prurient.

On that note, what better way to interact with all you great readers than a live blog during one of the more interesting fantasy matchups of Week One, Friday Night at 7pm (ESPN)?

Tulsa QB could be one of three guys (or all three!) at the helm of the finest offensive intellectual capital plus lots of skill players waiting to break out (admitted man crush on RB Charles Clay). Tulane is no walkover with Top 3 RB Andre Anderson of the Green Wave and oft-injured Jeremy Williams getting back in wideout shape.

FCB Experts TE Top 20 List

JermaineGresham1First Thoughts

We only went 10 deep on Tight Ends and the clear number one is Jermaine Gresham (photo left, thanks Icon SMI).  He is physical, gets the ball all over the field, and is Sam Bradford’s most consistent target.  As expected Pitta, Williams and Gronkowski are 2-4, so there are no surprises there. FCB Experts WR Top 20 List

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Dez Bryant1

Dez Bryant (thanks Icon SMI)

Dez Bryant becomes the only player to be a unanimous #1 choice at his position, which is quite impressive.  Dezmon Briscoe finished a close 2nd, however was hurt because he did not appear on one of the lists at all.   DeAndre Brown, who was also picked within the top seven by four of five experts, was left off of the fifth list thus hurting his final ranking.  Smith and Mullins hopped on the McKay Jacobson bandwagon; however, after not being able to practice with concussions earlier this week, BYU will be certain to take it easy with him.  Those projections are gutsy and may pay huge dividends.  Another strange fact is that 2 SMU receivers finished in the top 12.  When’s the last time anyone had 2 top WR’s and the school they came from was not Texas Tech, Houston or Hawaii?  Read the rest of this entry →

FCB Experts RB Top 20 List

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Five of the experts from the Fantasy College Blitz recently sat down and compiled their lists of the top 20 players at Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver and Tight End.  The player pool from these lists includes athletes from all conferences in the Bowl Subdivision.

Drew Smith is fantasy College Blitz’ Official Rankings maven and his rankings are included in the process seen here: http://www.fantasycollegeblitz.com/cs2009/cheatsheet.php

Players accumulated points based on their rankings.  If the player was ranked #1 at their position they got 20 points.  If they were ranked 20th, they got 1 point- with everything in between.

Only the experts top ten Tight Ends were selected, so the points range from 10 to 1.

Editor’s Note:  Some of the lists were submitted before the news of Darren Evans’ injury, leaving the Running Back out for the year and Matt Barkley was named the starting quarterback at USC over Aaron Corp. Read the rest of this entry →

FROM THE SHOTGUN – 2009 QBs Week One Start/Sit

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

TimTebowCan you believe it…the 2009 season is only days away!

While you are getting your satellite adjusted, your new HD TV installed, and your fixin’s together for your first tailgate of the season…oh, yes, and that fantasy team of yours….we have been busy slaving away on which QBs you should start or sit for opening week.

In the first few weeks of the season, many of the best programs are playing much weaker opponents.

In most cases, when Big Time BCS Program plays Goatlips State, for example….it means a lot of fifth-stringers, scout-team players, and “players with no name on jersey” are going to see some playing time.  This means your star fantasy player will see less production, as he will be pulled as early as the second quarter.

Goatlips State may mean an easy win for Big Time BCS Program….but could wreck your fantasy team in the process.

In this edition, we will discuss whether you should play QBs who face weak opposition in their openers….players like Florida QB Tim Tebow (photo, thanks IconSMI) Read the rest of this entry →
