What an Up and Down season already for the ACC. This past weekend brought some serious surprises; some good, some bad. I don’t think anyone would have imagined FSU and Miami playing the way they did considering the momentum that each team had heading into the weekend. I don’t think anyone imagined Russell Wilson still finding a way to put up 4 TDs on Pittsburgh, who has one of the best defenses in the nation thus far this season. Either way, let’s get to slapping on some helmet stickers for those that decided to show up and play true football this past Saturday.
Quarterback
As I already mentioned, NC States Russell Wilson has been by far the most consistent and truly noteworthy quarterback in the ACC this season. Going into Saturday, he had back-to-back 4 TD performances and no one would have thought he could have continued the trend, especially against Pittsburgh. Well he found a way as he went 21 for Read the rest of this entry →
Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour(pictured right, thanks Icon SMI) became the seventh player in conference history to eclipse 10,000 career passing yards in a 48-21 win over Akron. LeFevour now has 10,192 career passing yards.
Western Michigan senior running back and kick return specialist Brandon West became the MAC record holder for career all-purpose yards (6,207) and career kick return yards (2,549) this past weekend in a 24-10 win over Hofstra. West had 237 all-purpose yards and 51 kick return yards in the contest as he surpassed Travis Prentice (6,111, Miami, 1996-99) for the all-purpose yards mark and Trumaine Riley (2,541, Eastern Michigan, 2003-05) for the kick return yards record.
Buffalo WR Naaman Roosevelt became only the second receiver in school history to total 3,000 yards as he added nine receptions for 120 yards in a 37-13 road loss at Temple. Read the rest of this entry →
While Vince Mullins continues his travels, Daniel Freer will fill in with the weekly BlitzIndex, covering the top fantasy defenses/special teams in college football.
We have already completed four weeks into the 2009 season, and, some interesting things have happened regarding the top fantasy defenses of 2009….
A few of them, well, we had no idea they would be among the top defense/special team performers.
The usual names are there, of course….Florida (#10), Ohio State (#7), and Texas (#3)….while others who have appeared often among the top defenses/special teams….Oklahoma (#5) and South Florida (#6).
However, the #1 fantasy defense/special teams performer so far…is a school whose fight song contains the line “Nothing can stop the US Air Force”.
Air Force (photo, above, thanks Air Force Times) can add a new line for 2009: “Nothing gets past the US Air Force”. Read the rest of this entry →
I figured this week was going to be dead zone for action and fantasy; I haven’t enjoyed being this wrong in a while. There were big performances across the board for some knowns and some relative newcomers, and we’re not even counting the LSU D/ST performance that might’ve won a fantasy week or two, unless you’re not a fan of getting 2 TDs from your defense.
Top Performances
AJ Green, WR, Georgia(pictured left, thanks Icon SMI)
Another week, another 150-yard, 1 TD effort for AJ Green. From a fantasy perspective, he’s put equally talented WR Julio Jones to straight shame; while Alabama’s been spreading it out, Georgia’s done nothing of the sort. As a result, Green has been a fantastic fantasy WR, and might as well look at buying some property on this list the way things have been going. Read the rest of this entry →
