ACC 2008 ALL-FANTASY TEAM

December 15th, 2008 by Daniel Freer

You are the top RB in high school a couple of seasons ago…and for your second season of college football, you get a new head coach.  Is he going to be the Grinch…or Santa Claus?

If your new coach is the run-at-all-times Paul Johnson, your new coach is the latter…definitely.

Georgia Tech RB Jonathan Dwyer photo, thanks IconSMI), our Fantasy College Blitz:  ACC Fantasy Player of the Year, may have been the one actually delivering the gifts for the Yellow Jackets this season, rushing for nearly 1200 yards and 10 TDs (through November 22nd games).

Dwyer, a sophomore from Marietta, GA (Kell HS), was the main cog in the Georgia Tech option game.  As of the time of this writing, it still seems rival Georgia is still trying to catch Dwyer and his backfield mates…like most of the other GT opposition.

Joining Dwyer on the ACC All-Fantasy Team are

(All statistics quoted are through the November 22nd games)

QUARTERBACK:

RUSSELL WILSON – North Carolina State: Once this freshman was inserted as the Wolfpack starting QB during the season, NC State took off….Wilson threw for over 1500 yards and 14 TDs, while rushing for nearly 300 yards and 3 TDs.

RUNNING BACKS:

JONATHAN DWYER – Georgia Tech: (see above)

ANTONE SMITH – Florida State: Found the end-zone quite often for the Seminoles, with 15 total TDs.  Also rushed for nearly 700 yards.

C.J. SPILLER – Clemson: Part of the backfield duo with James Davis, Spiller ran for just over 500 yards, but had nearly 400 yards receiving…and scored 10 total TDs.

RECEIVERS:

HAKEEM NICKS – North Carolina: Nicks led an improved Tar Heel offense with nearly 1000 yards receiving, and scoring 9 TDs.

DARIUS HEYWARD-BEY – Maryland: The super-talented WR had over 500 yards receiving, over 200 yards rushing, and scored 6 TDs.

ERON RILEY – Duke: Led a resurgent Blue Devils squad with over 600 yards receiving and 7 TDs, under new head coach David Cutcliffe.

KICKER:

GRAHAM GANO – Florida State: The 2008 Lou Groza Award-winning kicker scored over 100 points for the Champs Bowl-bound Seminoles.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS:

BOSTON COLLEGE: The Eagles defense seemed to score just about every game…racking up 6 defensive TDs during the 2008 season.
