ACC Preview: North Carolina State Wolfpack

By Matthew Melton | July 22, 2008

The same comments used about the Maryland quarterbacks holds true here as well.  Daniel Evans and Harrison Beck have not distinguished themselves as average players in their careers at NC State. The only quarterback to even take a flier on would be Mike Glennon, one of the top quarterback recruits in the nation.

Things don’t get much rosier when we move to running back.  Andre Brown and Jamelle Eugene split time last season and totaled over 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns.  Unfortunately, from two people, that’s not what you want from a fantasy running back.

Wide receiver may be the best play if you are forced to draft a Wolfpack player.  Donald Bowens hauled in 41 passes last season and gained nearly 600 yards.  Besides Bowens, the leading returning receiver is Eugene, so he should see a lot more passes thrown his way in 2008.

On defense, NC State loses their top-3 tacklers and returns only 4 starters from a mediocre unit.  The Wolfpack did have solid punt and kickoff return units, but their key return man (Darrell Blackmon) has exhausted his eligibility.  Bowens did return some kicks last season, so the unit could remain solid.

The Wolfpack lose their starting kicker, Steven Hauschka, who made 16 of 18 kicks in 2007, so that unit may suffer as well.  All in all, the pickings appear to be pretty slim in Raleigh and if you find yourself with an NC State player as a regular starter it will probably be a long season.
