BCS Title Game is set – Florida vs. Oklahoma

While Texas has their valid points for inclusion, few can dispute that the 2009 BCS National Championship Game pits the hottest teams in the game against one another on January 8.
It is good for America (that phrase lets me use this awesome picture of Army’s new uniforms as they head to another beatdown by Navy).
The Oklahoma Sooners, they of the offense that has put 60+ on the board a record 5 straight games (full record listing here), will battle the Florida Gators, they of the almost five TD margin of victory per game since October 1 (Ivan Maisel story here).
We will have much more this week on the first ever matchup of Sooners and Gators, as well as the rest of the amazing bowl schedule. During bowl season we will pepper the sites with 2009 Mock Drafts, NFL Draft discussion and likely some recruiting.
Some quick early thoughts on the bowls first:
- How ecstatic are the folks at the Poinsettia Bowl getting #9 Boise State to play #11 TCU?
- Notre Dame takes a bid to the Hawaii Bowl. Notre Dame hasn’t won a bowl since the Clinton Administration. Can Hawaii beat ND? Will Weis land the prized island recruit?
- Pardon my homerism, but the Holiday Bowl battle of Ducks and Cowboys may include 1000 yards and 100 points!
- Kudos to the Texas Bowl for eschewing their usual conference tie-ins to host Rice versus Western Michigan. “Our game will be one of only five non-BCS games that will match two nine-win teams,” bowl manager Heather Houston said. “This will be one of the better match-ups of the bowl season.”
- The Fiesta and Rose Bowl should be thrilled at the matchups they secured, great lead-ins to the big game on the Thursday following.
