BIG EAST 2008 ALL-FANTASY TEAM

December 15th, 2008 by Daniel Freer

Sometimes, sharing is not the best thing…

Especially in football, in which you are allowed to use only one football per play.

But, when the University of Connecticut decided to give the ball on a regular basis to RB Donald Brown, our Fantasy College Blitz:  Big East Fantasy Player of the Year(photo, thanks IconSMI), the Huskies unleashed one of the top RBs in all of college football for 2008.

Brown, a junior from Atlantic Highlands, NJ (Red Bank Catholic HS), ran all over Big East and non-conference opposition for 1633 yards and 16 TDs (statistics through November 22nd games), leading the Huskies to an appearance in the International Bowl in Toronto on January 3rd, 2009.

His statistics are even more impressive because, at times, UConn struggled passing the football…allowing defenses to key on him exclusively.   Brown just kept on running, and running….

Joining Brown on the Big East All-Fantasy Team are

(All statistics quoted are through November 22nd games)

QUARTERBACK:

PAT WHITE – West Virginia: Arguably the best player ever in Mountaineer history, in 2008 White ran for nearly 800 yards and 7 TDs, while tossing 17 TD passes.  He ends his WVU career as the NCAA’s all-time leading rusher among quarterbacks.

RUNNING BACKS:

DONALD BROWN – UConn: (see above)

LeSEAN McCOY – Pittsburgh: Rushed for over 1100 yards and scored 18 TDs in 2008, while snagging almost 300 yards receiving.  A sure first-round NFL pick, if he decides to leave early.

VICTOR ANDERSON – Louisville: Developed into a steady runner in 2008, rushing for just over 1000 yards and scoring 9 total TDs for the Cardinals.

RECEIVERS:

MARDY GILYARD – Cincinnati: Top WR for the Big East champ Bearcats, with over 800 yards and 9 TDs…and seemingly on the end of many big passing plays.

KENNY BRITT – Rutgers: Exploded after the mid-way point of the season, finishing up with nearly 1200 yards and 5 TDs receiving.

DOMINICK GOODMAN – Cincinnati: A fine complement to teammate Gilyard, leading the Bearcats in receiving yards and caught 7 TD passes.

KICKER:

CONOR LEE – Pittsburgh: The Panther PK led all Big East kickers in scoring, and made a few key game-winning FGs during the season.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS:

UCONN: Not as opportunistic as last year’s turnover-taking unit, but nearly as effective.  The Huskies D scored 3 TDs during the 2008 season.
