BLITZindex: Cornhuskers still best defense, but with company

The Fantasy College Blitz BLITZindex ™ is an equal weighted measure of national ranks in three team defense categories – yards per play allowed (YPP), Yard per point allowed (YPPt), and points per game allowed (PPG). Yards per game allowed is included in the study for comparison only – not the rankings.

Nebraska maintains its top spot in the nation after slowing down a very good Kansas offense, now wonder that their most pivotal player DT Ndamukuong Suh receives the rare Heisman Trophy hype for a defensive player. I don’t see the Blackshirts allowing many points at all the rest of the way with Kansas State (no sleepwalking through this game for the B12 North) and Colorado (Dan Hawkins may be coaching intramurals by then).
The two teams atop the BCS now share top billing among the best in class rankings – the Florida Gators and Alabama Crimson Tide now have another way to lock in the anticipated SEC Championship Game (de facto National Championship Game?) matchup. Mark your calendar for December 5.
One more thing – if you followed me a-Twittering this weekend you no doubt sensed two themes – (1) how the heck did Houston lose to UCF and (2) we are seeing the end of an era for Southern Cal Trojans as USC lost to Stanford again. They plummet again down to 29 this week.
