Feast or Famine: Exploiting the Matchups

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Every week tons of players across the country put up staggering numbers out of nowhere. Why? Cause Directional State University is playing someone, somewhere. For Week Three, here are five under the radar plays to make to take advantage and beat your opponent.

QB Robert Marve, Purdue vs. Ball State

Despite losing all Big Ten wideout Keith Smith for the season and the fact Purdue barely beat Western Illinois last week, Marve is an excellent play against Ball State this week. Last week Ball State lost to Liberty…yes, Liberty and allowed their QB to throw for 275+ yards and a few scores. Given Purdue’s wide open offense, expect 300 yards and three scores for Marve. Feast or Famine: Where Did That Come From?

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Every year during the first week of the season players emerge that have never been heard of before. This article will praise a few of those players that had their coming out parties during the first week of the 2010 season.

Virgil Green, Nevada, Tight End

Finding a reliable fantasy Tight End is always challenging. Well look no further then Nevada’s Green, who blew up for seven catches, well over a 100 yards and two scores in the opener. He was clearly Colin Kaepernick’s favorite target and should be considered an every week starter going forward. The pistol offense the Wolfpack run is potent and Green will be a huge weapon for the passing game.

The Top 5 “Not So Hot to Trot” List

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Every year around draft time, players get hyped as “the next big thing”, the “big breakout star of 2010” or even a “must-have”. Well, someone has to play Debbie Downer, so here are five names that may underperform your expectations during the upcoming season.

Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

Floyd is a true offensive playmaker who has skills for the next level.  However, there are two glaring reasons why you need to temper expectations for this season. The first is the absence of a proven, starting quarterback. Jimmy Clausen is gone and with doubt as to the true leader of the Irish attack, Floyd may struggle at times to develop chemistry with the new signal caller. The second major issue is that Golden Tate is now in the NFL, not taking coverage away from Floyd. WR Kyle Rudolph will surely attract attention, however, not having Tate to cover will allow defenses to key more on Floyd. He will have a solid season, but it may be best to draft him as a WR2. What does Brian Kelly’s move mean to Notre Dame?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Notre_DameBrian Kelly is an offensive genius. He has taken average Quarterbacks such as Tony Pike and made them into superstars. He also has the ability to make a run first QB (Zach Collaros) and turn them into true fantasy impact players. Now at Notre Dame, Kelly must start over without incumbent starter Jimmy Clausen as QB. He must also replace the production of star receiver Golden Tate. While this may seem like a steep chore, there should be plenty of talent available for Kelly to make his mark. One thing that his track record has also shown is improved play on the defensive side of the ball during his tenure. Let’s just say Defense is a glaring problem for Notre Dame. Poinsettia Bowl Preview-Utah vs. California

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Cal Golden Bears logoGame Info

December 23rd, 8pm, San Diego, California

Game Background

A year ago Utah was playing in a BCS game while Cal early this year had aspirations of a BCS game themselves.  The loss of star back Jahvid Best is a huge loss for Cal, but the Utes won’t feel bad, as they have already lost their star back Matt Asiata for the season as well.

Utah Player to Watch

Eddie Wide is a name not known in many football households, however after the season ending injury to Asiata, Wide came on to rush for over a thousand yards and 12 touchdowns.  The Cal offense will put up points, so the key for Utah is to handle the ball, control the clock and use Wide all they can.

Wyoming Player to Watch

Shane Vereen is the key player to watch for the Bears.  He has already rushed for over 800 yards and 10 scores for the Bears in 2009 and has been a solid contributor to the Bears attack when Best is out of the lineup.  He averages 5.1 yards per rush, while also getting 22 receptions out of the backfield.  He is explosive and a game breaker.  And will be the games MVP.

What Will Happen

Utah is coming off a let down in their rivalry game with BYU while Cal, who had higher expectations than this bowl game, will have to get up for this one.  Utah’s offense is not as explosive as in years past, while their defense is always solid.  The Cal rushing attack will provide the difference, as Vereen will break off 2 long runs en route to a 28-23 win.
