Saturday Morning College Football Breakfast Burrito, Week One 2010

Saturday, September 4th, 2010

Ah, yes, life is complete.

Not only can we start to forget the sweltering heat of Florida summer, we can start new memories of college football. Whether you eagerly await your favorite team’s creampuff opener, or if you have had the Boise-Virginia Tech clash on your iPhone calendar for months, or whether you can’t wait to see your fantasy teams live scoring, it is time for kickoff!

PS- Live Scoring didn’t update until 1115 ET on CBSSports.com. That’s like Diet Live Scoring. Quasi Live Scoring. Let’s hope they clean things up by Week Two.

Here it is, all the news of the week wrapped up in one quick bite.

In the closest race in Heisman history, Mark Ingram, sophomore running back from Alabama, has won the 2009 Heisman Trophy.

Ingram edged Stanford’s Toby Gerhart by just 28 total points, 1,304 to 1,276.   He’s the first Crimson Tide player–and the third-straight sophomore–to win the the trophy.

“I’m a little overwhelmed right now,” said Ingram upon receiving the award.  “I’m honored to be Alabama’s first Heisman winner.”

Ingram won four of the six Heisman regions:  the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic, the South and the Midwest (where he was born).  Gerhart won the West, while Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh won the Southwest.

Final Order of Finish, with total points

1. Mark Ingram, 1,304 points

2. Toby Gerhart, 1,276 points

3. Colt McCoy, 1,145 points

4. Ndamukong Suh, 815 points

5. Tim Tebow, 390 points

6. C.J. Spiller, 223 points

7. Kellen Moore, 100 points

8. Case Keenum, 37 points

9. Mardy Gilyard, 23 points

10. Golden Tate, 21 points

The race for the 2009 Heisman Trophy was a seminal one in the award’s history.

What started out as a battle royale between three star quarterbacks ended up as the tighest race ever between two running backs who were mere afterthoughts heading into the season. Read the rest of this entry →

Colt McCoy takes the Heisman lead

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

In place of the usual Saturday Morning College Football Breakfast Burrito, let us focus on how Colt McCoy wrapped up the Heisman Trophy this week.

I know Alabama RB Mark Ingram was nicked up yesterday, but Texas QB Colt McCoy took the lead in my two man race for the 2009 Heisman Trophy with his huge five TD performance on Thanksgiving Night.

Toby Gerhart, Tim Tebow and CJ Spiller have created stellar seasons, but to me the combo of 2009 stats and team success now tilts strongly in the main Longhorns favor. And with this season’s race for player of the year as tight as ever, the “body of work” vote has to go to McCoy. Playoff Burrito Wrap up – Fantasy Playoff Triskaidekaphobia edition

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

First off my condolences to those of you absolutely screwed by the Cincinnati QB rotation last night – Tony Pike did a fantasy football impersonation of Mariano Rivera, closing drives in the red zone with two short TD passes on four attempts. That resulted in Zach Collaros lowest output of his short stint as starter – he should fear Friday the 13th now.

Before you curse out Brian Kelly and yank him from your Coach of the Year ballot – at least be as understanding as Tennessee Vols fan and robbery victim Corey Zickefoose.

Corey Zickefoose: I think they should still be able to play football, regardless. Tennessee is my place. You know, it’s my football team.

Reporter: Even after they put a gun in your face, you say let them play football?

Corey Zickefoose: Yeah. It’s Tennessee. That’s the way it is sometimes.

Corey, the Tennessee Chamber of Tourism would like a word with you.

Weather

No need to worry about Tropical Storm Ida in the Southeast it has disappated and has no effect on todays games.

The historically strong Nor’easter soaked the Virginia and NC area with almost a foot of rain, so beware of all ACC matchups for some halo effects of the storm. I could see muted performance from Georgia Tech and the Miami Hurricanes. The gametime weather may be nice but the effects on the soaking will put focus on the groundskeeping crews.

Big winds expected in The Long Island area so we could see 50mph in the ground battle of VMI at Army. This will mean more for some NFL matchups on Sunday.

Start-sit after the jump, updates throughout the day on my Twitter feed.
