Chippewa’s Strike Gold with Dan Enos Hire
January 20th, 2010 by Mike Ware
Let me go on record to say that I love this head coach change. The MAC just got one heck of a ball coach and the rest of the conference will be watching closely to see what he puts together at Mt. Pleasant. Dan Enos knows offense, so if you are looking at this from a fantasy perspective take note. It never hurts to put together a draft strategy early.
What exactly could this mean for those looking for offensive production? Passing yards baby! Let’s dig into that background and see if Central Michigan will remain a viable team for next years draft.
Now…stick with me here, I am laying the foundation of his offensive knowledge. Enos played his college ball at Michigan State. He started two years at QB for the Spartans. From 1991 to 1998 he served as an offensive coordinator and coached quarterbacks, backfield and wide receivers at different institutions.
He really started to show on the radar in 1999 when he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Missouri State. The passing offense ranked 22nd, scoring offense was 23rd and total offense ranked 30th.
From 2000 to 2002 he coached the quarterbacks at Western Michigan. The Broncos ranked as high as 30th nationally in passing offense and averaged 400.6 total yards and 29.9 points per game.
In 2003, as the offensive coordinator, North Dakota State averaged 30.1 points per game.
In 2004 and 2005 at Cincinnati he was the quarterbacks coach. Yes, pass happy Cincinnati was one of his stops.
And from 2006 to 2009 he was coaching the running backs after starting as the quarterbacks coach at Michigan State.
The potential is there for the Chippewa’s to have an offensive system that continues to put points on the board. The biggest hurdle for Enos is the departure of stud QB Dan LeFevour and one of his favorite targets WR Bryan Anderson. It may take some time for Enos to recruit the players he wants for his system, although Butch Jones left him a decently full cupboard. Once Enos establishes himself in the role, look to see one of the best passing offenses in the nation.
