Fantasy College Blitz Experts QB Top 20 List
August 30th, 2009 by Adam Mankuta
Five of the experts from the Fantasy College Blitz recently sat down and compiled their lists of the top 20 players at Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver and Tight End. The player pool from these lists includes athletes from all conferences in the Bowl Subdivision.
Drew Smith is fantasy College Blitz’ Official Rankings maven and his rankings are included in the process seen here: http://www.fantasycollegeblitz.com/cs2009/cheatsheet.php
Players accumulated points based on their rankings. If the player was ranked #1 at their position they got 20 points. If they were ranked 20th, they got 1 point- with everything in between.
Only the experts top ten Tight Ends were selected, so the points range from 10 to 1.
Editor’s Note: Some of the lists were submitted before the news of Darren Evans’ injury, leaving the Running Back out for the year and Matt Barkley was named the starting quarterback at USC over Aaron Corp.

First Thoughts

In 2008, Case Keenum ranked No.1 nationally in total offense and No. 2 nationally in passing yards per game
More than any other position, the quarterbacks stayed true to form for the most part. Case Keenum (pictured right, thanks Icon SMI) was not a surprise #1 pick for 4 of the 5 voters, coming in at 6th on the fifth list. Surprisingly, Kansas QB Todd Reesing (who put up in 3,888 yards and 32 passing TD’s in 2008), was left off a list making his rank a little low. One major surprise was the lack of respect for Boise QB Kellen Moore, who only appeared on 2 of 5 lists despite throwing for just under 3,500 yards and 25 scores in 2008. With Ian Johnson gone and the team relying more on the passing game, Moore will be a star in 2009. This group also has a ton of confidence in Mike Leach, as his latest QB Taylor Potts did not go lower then 9th. Some other quarterbacks who appeared once on the list yet provide plenty of intrigue are; Riley Dodge, Darryl Clark, Jarrett Brown and Dwight Dasher.
Too High
…goes to Dan LeFevour ranked 7th overall. No reason players such as; Moore, Max Hall, Todd Reesing and Zac Robinson, should go after LeFevour- especially considering his injury history. Another is Juice Williams, who ranks 10th, but will once again struggle to stay in the top 20. Although he rushed for five scores, his 22:16 TD to INT ratio in 2008 was subpar for a player ranked so high.
Too Low

Matt Barkley, the first recipient of the Joe Montana QB of the year award during the Outback Bowl game
Aside from Moore, we have Matt Barkley (pictured left, thanks Icon SM), who was only recently named the first freshman quarterback in school history to be named the starter. The USC QB steps into a squad loaded with weapons, a solid running game to compliment his skills and should finish the year much higher than where he finished in the rankings.
Will Finish the Season Higher
Moore, Barkley and G.J. Kinne, presumed starter for Tulsa. Kinne steps into a magical situation which saw Tulsa’s starting quarterback in 2008, David Johnson, throw for over 4,000 yards and 46 scores. If Kinne can take the reign of the job early, he is a must have and start in every league.
Another name to remember on the Free Agent wire is Bo Levi Mitchell, the sophomore quarterback from SMU that is now entering his second season under June Jones. Only time will tell whether he can become the next Timmy Chang or Colt Brennan, but with two solid weapons in Aldrick Robinson and Emmanuel Sanders, he has a good shot to succeed.
