Fantasy Heisman Watch: Change is Constant
September 12th, 2008 by John Huss
It’s a wonder what one game can do in the world of fantasy college football. We saw Shun White from Navy blow up in Game 1, giving a nice salute to all the fantasy owners that didn’t know his name before the season started. FCB’s Vince Mullins cracked a little smile this past Saturday when Dez Bryant from Oklahoma State went for 236 yards and 3 TDs. He got some heat when he tabbed Bryant as his # 10 WR. Of course, there were many fantasy owners happy to have David Johnson from Tulsa on their team as he lit up North Texas to the tune of 418 yards and 6 TDs. Great games are nice, however repeating that performance over and over again is what leads to a defining season.
Last week we listed our top 10 Fantasy Heisman names. Here’s a recap of the results:
[TABLE=17]
Now, let’s take a gander at the new list based on the most recent games:
[TABLE=21]
There is some noticable changes between the two weeks. Dropping from the list are highly ranked names like Dan Lefevour, Harvey Unga and PJ Hill . Joining the list are recent heroes like David Johnson, Nate Davis and Case Keenum . This starts to point to a bias, as 7 of the names on the revised watch list are QBs. However the numbers are hard to ignore. You also have to take into account that many teams that started these players likely added a W to their record.
The names just outside the Top 10 are players such as the recently fallen PJ Hill, rising star Donald Brown and even our first TE to crack the top 20, Dennis Pitta . It will be interesting what players will have a significant fantasy impact each week to remain constants on this list.
Also, we’d like to hear your take on this and to even see how you would rank the Fantasy Heisman hopefuls. Visit our Forum discussion here to do join in.
