FCB Top 25 DRAFT for CBSSports.com Blogpoll, Week 7

October 12th, 2009 by Vince Mullins

Hawkeyes fans, I can no longer deny the power of your squad.  Jayhawk Nation, please no fighting over the postulate that Kansas is the worst undefeated team in the nation. And Longhorn Faithful, you better get out of the gates fast this week during your Big 12 exhibition at the Texas State Fair – otherwise it will be Texas State FAIL.

Rank Team Delta
1 Florida
2 Alabama 1
3 Virginia Tech 1
4 Texas 2
5 Miami (Florida)
6 LSU
7 Boise State
8 Cincinnati
9 Southern Cal
10 TCU 1
11 Iowa 8
12 Oklahoma State 1
13 Penn State 1
14 Ohio State 4
15 Oregon 1
16 Brigham Young 2
17 Georgia Tech 6
18 Nebraska 2
19 Kansas 5
20 South Florida 1
21 Auburn 6
22 Missouri 5
23 Houston
24 South Carolina
25 Notre Dame
Last week’s ballot
Dropped Out: Mississippi (#22), Michigan (#25).
More on the rankings after the jump…
I will atone for past sins – now that Iowa looks like a team of fate, I have to rank them higher than the Penn State team they smote. And eight points higher than last week – call it a breakout, call it chaos emerging from latency, whatever – I am making up for being a non-believer.
Kansas,  you barely blew by the Cyclones to get to 5-0 so your lack of style points just force me to move you down despite the win. You have one of the best fantasy programs around, but that isn’t germane to this exercise.
And Colorado stuck with Texas for a little more than a half, a disturbing trend in the last four games where the Longhorns got out of the gate like Carl Lewis. And I reference the all-time great sprinter because I expect that Colt McCoy and Co. will be there at the end. My crystal ball sees two national title games – the SEC pits Florida vs Alabama (de facto) and the BCS faces off Florida and Texas. My dreams of a Florida-USC tilt challenging the top two programs of the decade look to have faded away again.
Other big moves:
Ohio State down 4 after win over Wisconsin – shrapnel from the Iowa explosion. Since Iowa must be ranked higher than Penn State and I think Penn is better than the Poisonous Nuts, they gotta drop. Plus, a good loss (USC)  and a bad win (Navy) does not move me to think of them as Top Ten Material.
Georgia Tech up 6 after exciting win over Florida State:  they have handled all comers well except #5 Miami (FL), the offense has awakened the last two weeks and there are few teams more exciting to watch.
Auburn down 6 after loss to Arkansas: Likely guilty of having them too high to begin with, as I laid down my list I still see them deserving of a rank (unlike the AP). Tough SEC sked will create more volatility in the rankings. and Arkansas was on my sleeper list, they moved up to the watch list.

Missouri down 5 after 4th quarter collapse to Nebraska:  Huskers best win by far, I thought about putting Tigers ahead of Kansas but that would be just too large a drop for one week for an undefeated team.
