FROM THE SHOTGUN: Week Thirteen QB Prime-Time/Pine-Time
By Daniel Freer | November 17, 2008
Parting is such sweet sorrow….
Well, not so much me “parting” from writing articles…however this will be our last installment of “From The Shotgun” for the 2008 season. Most leagues will have either finished up by now, or, in their final week.
We hope you have found this series informative, if not, at least a little entertaining. It has been a blast analyzing and critiquing quarterbacks this season…especially when my anayses are accurate.
Now, on to this week’s list:
In case you did not know, or the rock you were living under was foreclosed in recent weeks…there is a big game in Norman, Oklahoma this week. Really big
PRIME-TIME QBs THIS WEEK:
SAM BRADFORD (Oklahoma) and GRAHAM HARRELL (Texas Tech): “Whoa Nellie”, as the legendary sportscaster Keith Jackson would say…this game is huge. Not only huge for fantasy, but, for the Big XII and National Championship. Both Bradford (pictured above, thanks IconSMI) and Harrell have been the most productive QBs this season, and neither will be slowed down by the opponents defense this week. If you have either QB you will be playing them.
CASE KEENUM (Houston) and TREVOR VITTATOE (UTEP): Another fun shootout expected here, as both QBs can light it up. I expect this game to be a little closer for Houston this week…there has to be some downer after the big win over Tulsa. The Miner’s Vittatoe has been one of the top producing QBs, even after a slow start to 2008.
DAN LeFEVOUR (Central Michigan) and NATE DAVIS (Ball State): Not as tempting a game as it appeared to be earlier this season, but, still expect a shootout in this game. This is probably Ball State’s last challenge to an undefeated season and MAC Championship.
OTHER PRIME-TIME QBs: TERRELLE PRYOR, Ohio State; PAT WHITE, West Virginia; DAVID JOHNSON, Tulsa; CHASE CLEMENT, Rice; KELLEN MOORE, Boise State.
MAYBE PLAY THEM THIS WEEK:
TIM TEBOW (Florida) vs The Citadel: Calm down, Gator fans…UF is playing The Citadel this week. You think Tebow is going to play after the second quarter in this one? With Florida State and the SEC Championship Game in the next two weeks for the Gators, it will be a light weekend for TT.
COLIN KAEPERNICK (Nevada) vs Boise State: Last year, Kaepernick came of age in a wild game at Boise State…a 69-67 OT thriller loss for the Wolf Pack. However, Boise’s Broncos pack one of the nation’s best defenses in 2008, and it will be tougher for Kaepernick to repeat his 2007 performance this weekend.
PINE-TIME THIS WEEK:
BRIAN JOHNSON (Utah) and MAX HALL (BYU): The annual “Holy War” matchup will not be much of a blessing for these two QBs, as both Utah and BYU have decent defenses. Look for a low-scoring game between the Utes and Cougars in Salt Lake City….esepcially with MWC titles and BCS Bowl invites on the line.
NOTABLES OFF THIS WEEK: COLT McCOY, Texas; ZAC ROBINSON, Oklahoma State; CHASE DANIEL, Missouri; JOE GANZ, Nebraska; MARK SANCHEZ, USC; TIM HILLER, Western Michigan; MATT STAFFORD, Georgia.
