FROM THE SHOTGUN…WEEK TWO QB START/SIT
September 8th, 2010 by Daniel Freer
Most of survived Week One intact (except your humble writer here…who seems to have caught the “My Fantasy Team Stunk Last Week” flu), and, Week Two looks pretty promising…for your quarterbacks.
For those of you who got lucky and picked Houston QB Case Keenum (photo, thanks sportsblognation.com), be prepared to be awarded this week.
BEST PLAY THIS WEEK: Case Keenum – Houston (vs UTEP): It would be easy to say, every week, that Keenum will be the best play…but this week is special. Keenum and his Cougars saw all chance for national glory end with a loss in El Paso last year, after the Cougars knocked off two good Big XII opponents earlier in the season. I think Keenum and his Coogs have a score to settle here

OTHERS TO PLAY THIS WEEK:
Cameron Newton – Auburn (at Mississippi State): Nice Auburn debut for Newton, and expect more big stats against one of the bottom-feeders of the SEC.
Taylor Potts – Texas Tech (at New Mexico): Potts put up some big yards for new coach Tommy Tuberville last week vs SMU, and he should have no problem with New Mexico…who is still missing tackles against Oregon as we speak.
Taylor Martinez – Nebraska (vs Idaho): “Eric Crouch with an Arm” was a last-minute named starter last week, and dazzled in his debut. A nice play vs the Vandals this week.
Matt Barkley – USC (vs Virginia): Barkley lit up Hawaii last Thursday night, and, gets a weaker team for the Trojans home debut…yes, Virginia…you are weaker than Hawaii.
Diondre Borel – Utah State (vs Idaho State): Utah State nearly stunned Oklahoma last week, and Borel should have no problem producing vs a weak Idaho State Bengals team
Zach Collaros – Cincinnati (vs Indiana State): Although Collaros probably will not see action in the second half, he might have 500 yards passing in the first two quarters….Indiana State is a bad I-FCS program.
OTHERS TO PLAY: Ryan Mallett – Arkansas; Garrett Gilbert – Texas; Jerrod Johnson – Texas A&M; Robert Griffin – Baylor; Blaine Gabbert – Missouri; Josh Nesbitt – Georgia Tech; Andy Dalton – TCU; Ryan Lindley – San Diego State; Colin Kaepernick – Nevada.

MAYBE NOT PLAY THEM THIS WEEK:
Terrelle Pryor – Ohio State AND Jacory Harris – Miami: Interesting intersectional matchup that looks to be low-scoring.
John Brantley – Florida AND B.J. Daniels – South Florida: South Florida tends to play in-state opponents tough…just ask UCF and Florida State.
Denard Robinson – Michigan AND Dane Cryst – Notre Dame: Robinson had a great opener against UConn last week, but lets not hand him the Heisman just yet. This game was a shoot-out last year…though I feel this year it will be low scoring.

NOPE, NOT THIS WEEK:
Austin Arnaud – Iowa State (vs Iowa): I like Arnaud for most of his Big XII matchups, but this annual in-state tussle vs Iowa will be the toughest defense Arnaud and the Cyclones may see all season.

OFF THIS WEEK:
Ben Chappell – Indiana; T.J. Yates – North Carolina; Kellen Moore – Boise State; Ryan Colbourn – Fresno State; Ryan Katz – Oregon State.
