FROM THE SHOTGUN…Week Eight QB Prime-Time/Pine Time
October 13th, 2008 by Daniel Freer
What a crazy week of a crazy season…
Where do we begin? How about Tim Tebow finally looking like that Heisman Guy of old in the Florida Gators regurgitating of LSU in The Swamp…
Or, Chase Daniel possibly losing the Heisman in a second-half meltdown at home to Oklahoma State, where Cowboy QB Zac Robinson can now claim “I’m the man, I’m number 11″ (but, I used your photo last week, I think…)
Oh, and do not forget, Colt McCoy’s Texas Longhorns snagged the #1 national ranking after dunking Oklahoma and Sam Bradford (5 TDs, though).
And, lets not forget possibly the biggest turnaround of 2008…the Minnesota Gophers…who went to 6-1 after a stunning upset of Illinois in Champaign, even with Illini All-Planet QB Juice Williams having a big day.
Since Adam Weber, Eric Decker, and the Gophers are off this week…no photo of you. Though, maybe “The Fastest Man in Minnesota”, Paulie Bleeker (pictured thanks AP), just might reconsider that track scholarship to GopherNation and put some football cleats on.
THE “CHEESE TO YOUR MACARONI” PRIME-TIME QBs
COLT McCOY (Texas) and CHASE DANIEL (Missouri): The Big XII is QB heaven, and two of their top QBs slug it out again. Can the Horns continue their drive to the championships (Big XII, National), or is this the game Daniel and Mizzou get back into the race?
SAM BRADFORD (Oklahoma) and TODD REESING (Kansas): Another set of killer Big XII signal-callers, and look for another big offensive show. Wonder if KU and Reesing take advantage of the Sooners D, after losing All-American LB Ryan Reynolds to a season-ending injury?
JOSH FREEMAN (Kansas State) and CODY HAWKINS (Colorado): According to KSU QB Freeman…why throw for TDs when you can run them in? Your fantasy-owners love you for that, Josh. I see CU’s Hawkins picking up his game this week in a potential shoot-out.
ZAC ROBINSON (Oklahoma State) and ROBERT GRIFFIN (Baylor): The Fetish For The Big XII continues…heck why not…there are QBs everywhere. Robinson is on a roll in recent weeks, and the Bears true-frosh Griffin should be able to produce on the Pokes D.
BO LEVI MITCHELL (SMU) and CASE KEENUM (Houston): Hey, this is not a Big XII game…but I like this matchup. Yes, SMU got smoked by Tulsa last weekend, but Mitchell seems to be grasping more and more New Pony Coach June Jones’s Run-And-Shoot offense. Keenum is just going nuts on the opposition, especially vs CUSA schools.
DAVID JOHNSON (Tulsa) and TREVOR VITTATOE (UTEP): Another CUSA shoot-out in the works. Johnson will put up his numbers on the Miner D, while Vittatoe has the talent and personnel to abuse the Golden Hurricane D for awhile…remember the Miners put up 58 on a good UCF defense a few weeks ago.
TIM HILLER (Western Michigan) and DAN LeFEVOUR (Central Michigan): Before the season started, the hotter of the two QBs in this was LeFevour…now it is Hiller. Should be an entertaining offensive game, nevertheless.
OTHER PRIME-TIME: GRAHAM HARRELL, Texas Tech; MARK SANCHEZ, USC; CHASE CLEMENT, Rice; CHASE HOLBROOK, New Mexico State; COLIN KAEPERNICK, Nevada
THE NOT SO “INFINITE PLAYLIST” MAYBE’S THIS WEEK:
MAX HALL (BYU) at TCU: No, not hating on MWC QBs…I just do not see Hall blowing-up on a decent TCU defense. BYU will win this game, but this game more than likely will be a defensive one.
DREW WILLY (Buffalo) at Army: Two weeks ago, if I said “possibly bench Willy against Army”, you woulda thunk I was a Bill Clinton-hater or just plain nuts. However, Army has played two great weeks of football in the past two…and their running game is keeping the ball away from opponents offenses.
THADDEUS LEWIS (Duke) at Miami: Funny thing is, I am saying “maybe not play Lewis”, but, I think Duke wins this over the ‘Canes. UM would love to have Lewis over their QBs, anyday.
THE REALLY “SUPERBAD” PINE-TIME THIS WEEK:
MIKE TEEL (Rutgers) at UConn: I wonder if anyone still has Teel on their roster? Uh, really? If you do, not this week…not vs the Huskies.
CURTIS PAINTER (Purdue) at Northwestern: This QB has gone from a Rembrandt to a Schicklgruber in art…er…football circles. Lets hope he does not turn into a madman like the latter artist…
ANY UCF QB: Oh, I forgot, they are off this week. Even if they were playing, they would still be off this week…believe me.
NOTABLES OFF THIS WEEK: TIM TEBOW, Florida; ADAM WEBER, Minnesota; NATE DAVIS, Ball State.
