FROM THE SHOTGUN…Week Nine QB Prime-Time/Pine-Time

It’s coming near…what bad teams fear…what good teams hold dear…
It’s Jim Mora Sr.’s favorite time of year…
PLAYOFFS!
Eight weeks down, two to go, for most leagues. And, for most of you, you are either trying to assure your playoff standing, or fighting hard to keep in the race.
Making the best QB choices are important. By this time, you definitely know which QB should start…and which one has turned your team into a stiff.
Of course, if you have a Big XII QB, you are not too worried now about that position. And, most are good plays this week.
But, for some conferences, decisions will still have to be made. One QB to hold off from playing this week just might be Ohio State phenom Terrelle Pryor (pictured, thanks IconSMI). Find out why…
PLAYOFF FRIENDLY PRIME-TIME QBs:
GRAHAM HARRELL (Texas Tech) and TODD REESING (Kansas): Anytime someone plays against Harrell and his Red Raiders, that QB is going to produce. Keeping up with TT is the only way to hang with them. Also, Reesing is a top fantasy QB, in his own right.
COLT McCOY (Texas) and ZAC ROBINSON (Oklahoma State): Another Big XII matchup-dandy, and the surprise of the Big XII, Oklahoma State, has that balanced offense that could spring an upset on the Horns. Cowboy QB Robinson seems to get more fantasy-friendly each week.
JOE GANZ (Nebraska) and ROBERT GRIFFIN (Baylor): Both of these QBs are ranked in the top 15 nationally in passing efficiency, yet, are in the bottom half among Big XII QBs…that is how freaking deep the Big XII goes in QBs! Both of these QBs would be the top QB in most other conferences. And, both should produce in bunches this week.
SAM BRADFORD (Oklahoma) and JOSH FREEMAN (Kansas State): I still like both QBs in this game, even with Freeman and K-State having an off-week at Colorado. The Sooners and Bradford have a decided advantage, which should motivate Freeman and his Wildcats.
MARK SANCHEZ (USC) and WILLIE TUITAMA (Arizona): See…I know there are other QBs than Big XII ones! USC has played some awesome defense recently (two straight shut-outs), but Zona has the guns on offense to match-up well.
JUICE WILLIAMS (Illinois) vs Wisconsin: The Badgers are reeling, and Williams is feeling a potential big-day. The Illini QB has had a number of big days already in 2008.
ADAM WEBER (Minnesota) vs Purdue: Purdue is another Big Ten team reeling, and Weber and his Gophers are the surprise of the nation…and have a realistic shot at going 11-1 this season…no kidding.
BO LEVI MITCHELL (SMU) vs Navy: An improving frosh QB against a defense that traditionally cannot stop anyone. Mitchell will be helped more if the Ponies D can make a few stops on Navy’s option offense. A potential 60-50 type of game brewing here.
OTHER PRIME-TIME QBs: CHASE DANIEL, Missouri; DAVID JOHNSON, Tulsa; KELLEN MOORE, Boise State; CHASE CLEMENT, Rice; MAX HALL, BYU; TIM TEBOW, Florida
UMMM…MAYBE HOLD OFF THESE THIS WEEK:
MATT GROTHE (South Florida) vs Louisville: Just a little leery on Grothe this week…it is a Big East road game, and Grothe tends to wear down as this season goes along. If this game was in Raymond James instead of Papa John’s, I would recommend playing Grothe.
NATE DAVIS (Ball State) vs Eastern Michigan: Not that Davis has gone bad, it seems that the Cardinals have relied more on the running of MiQuale Lewis and the defense to win games for BSU. After Akron’s Dennis Kennedy ran silly on EMU last week…it’s too tempting not to run Lewis all game.
HOME FOR THE POST-SEASON…DO NOT PLAY THIS WEEK:
TERRELLE PRYOR (Ohio State) and DARRYL CLARK (Penn State): No…I am not saying these QBs are going bad…this game is just too important for both teams…pretty much the Big Ten title and a possible BCS Championship Game slot are on the line. Look for both defenses to step up on this one, and not so much offensive production.
NOTABLES OFF THIS WEEK: BRIAN JOHNSON, Utah; TIM HILLER, Western Michigan; TREVOR VITTATOE, UTEP; (NOTE: CASE KEENUM, Houston…plays Tuesday October 28 at Marshall)
