GOING DEEP: Hide route sneaky last moment analysis of WRs
September 26th, 2009 by Vince Mullins
I will be on hiatus next week, the rest of the gang will step up in my absence. Lemme hear it if you are feeling them…
PERMASTARTERS
- Dez Bryant OkSt vs. Grambling
- Dezmon Brisoce KU vs. Southern Miss
- Mardy Gilyard Cincy hosts Fresno
- Eric Decker Minny at Cal (temper expectations)
- Jordan Shipley Texas vs. UTEP
- Emmanuel Sanders SMU idle (so no picks for Mitchell!)
- Michael Floyd ND out, Golden Tate in at Purdue
and welcome to the club…
Ryan Broyles OU but idle (3 TD in b2b games against idaho St. and Tulsa – at Miami (FL) will likely be less but still good)
PERMA – STAT: Only receivers with 100 yards in each game this season – Decker, Greg Salas of Hawaii and Vincent Brown of San Diego State. Momentum plays if ever there were ones.
Fave plays for Week Four
- Anyone in the Texas Tech at Houston Fantasy GOY
- Any WR playing an FCS team – except UConn who will likely run for 500 versus Rhode Island
- Philip Payne UNLV at Wyoming – UNLV is moving the ball well no matter the defense nor their own QB. payne is a 6-6 soph who should end up the season as the #2 producer but monster Rodelin Anthony surprises defenses so far.
- DeMaryius Thomas, Georgia Tech hosts UNC – I cannot deny that Josh Nesbitt looks horrible, but Thomas has made the most of his three catches a game and has TDs in consecutive games. NFL talent but the very small amount of touches makes him high risk, but if you cannot decide on your own WR3 or 4 I would scoop up the new Megatron in a heartbeat.
- Mike Williams Syracuse vs. Maine – lots of love for the Orange on the Sports Fix on Monday, likely again this Monday.
- Kodi Burns, WR/QB Auburn hosts Ball State – Ball State and Miami (OH) may be the worst teams in the nation. Burns comes in for the Wildcat set and has already had monster games this season. I am sitting him on a team with Decker, Williams, Blair White and Lyle Leong – but that is just how I roll.
Super sleeper
Darrel McNeal, ULM at FAU – in a battle of horrible defenses (courtesy of BlitzIndex), this score may go higher than the Houston – TT matchup. McNeal has produced OK on the road against Texas and Arizona State, look for a BIG BREAKOUT in Week Four. Owned in only 2% of Athlon/U-Sports leagues – impress your friends and hit the Sun Belt talent.
VICIOUS PINE
Randall Cobb, Kentucky vs. Florida – I sense that the tension of the Tennessee game has some carryover to the trip to beautiful Lexington – and there are bad intentions in the Gators minds. My good friend Shannon will be at the game supporting her Wildcat boyfriend (likely not in the Miller Genuine Draft seats), she should prepare for some serious coddling. Seriously, Wildcat fans should retreat to the fetal position now.
DeAndre Brown of SMiss – Leg is still an issue and he faces our #6 defense of Kansas. Risk to sitting Brown is his 6-6 frame and its huge matchup problem for the smaller Jayhawk DBs, but I am not ready to bless a start of Brown. Have I made some trade offers for him? Of course, but every owner was willing to wait it out.
Add to watch list
From last week, Darrell Catchings of Oregon State, Markques Simas of Colorado, Greg Bolling of Wyoming and Gerald Jones of Tennessee (although Pendley will not be holding his breath waiting for Mr. Jones).
Watch Shaquelle Evans and Duval Kamara of Notre Dame (upgd with Floyd injury) Evans is an exciting true freshman, Kamara was a 2008 sleeper of mine who still deals with injuries.
I see Dane Sanzenbacher of Ohio State is still a free agent in a couple of my leagues … I suppose I am not the only one to fully buy in to Terrelle Pryor as a passer, and we don’t want to get caught up in the post-Toledo excitement. Pryor apologists likely are smiling like the Encyte guy as the Illinois D is on tap. DS is worth a look on matchups as he is the deep threat. Gut feeling on this guy.
Normally you can follow me on weekends at www.twitter.com/vincemullins. You can email me and I can get back to you on Oct 3 when my ship comes in. That’s right shorty, get your towels ready cuz its about to go down, I am on a m-f’in boat!
