MAC 2008 ALL-FANTASY TEAM

December 8th, 2008 by Daniel Freer

Earlier this season, all indications pointed that someone from Ball State would end up as the top fantasy performer in the Mid-American Conference, especially with the Cardinals returning top talent at QB, WR, and TE.

However, it was a Cardinals sophomore RB who ended up being the top fantasy performer in the conference.

Ball State RB MiQuale Lewis, our MAC Fantasy Player of the Year, (photo, thanks AP) established himself as the go-to-guy for the MAC West Division champs, especially after top WR Dante Love sustained a career-ending injury early in the 2008 campaign.

Lewis, from Fort Wayne, IN (Snider HS), rushed for 1450 yards and 17 TDs (through November 22nd games), and added 208 yards receiving for the 12-1 Cardinals.

Joining Lewis on the MAC All-Fantasy Team are

(Note:  All statistics are through November 22nd games)

QUARTERBACK:

TIM HILLER – Western Michigan: Threw for nearly 3400 yards and 33 TDs, and was the most consistent QB in a conference that traditionally produces great signal-callers.

RUNNING BACKS:

MiQUALE LEWIS – Ball State: (see above)

DENNIS KENNEDY – Akron: The Ohio State transfer zipped his way to 18 TDs, keeping the Zips in the hunt for the MAC East title late into the season.

JAMES STARKS – Buffalo: The sleek-footed Bull ran for almost 1100 yards and 13 TDs, leading UatB to their first-ever MAC Championship.

RECEIVERS:

NAAMAN ROOSEVELT – Buffalo: Until Michael Crabtree’s catch against Texas, the catch of the year in college football was Roosevelt’s last-second jump-ball TD snag vs Temple.  Had 9 TDs in 2008.

BRUCE FRANCIS – Temple: One of the fastest players in college football, Francis raced off with 13 TDs for the improved Owls.

JAMARKO SIMMONS – Central Michigan: Another fine season from the Chips top receiver, 1100 yards and 7 TDs

KICKER:

IAN McGARVEY – Ball State: After shoring up the BSU kicking game last season, McGarvey led all MAC kickers in scoring.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS:

NORTHERN ILLINOIS: New coach Jerry Kill turned around the Huskies in 2008, and much of it had to do with a good, opportunistic defense.
