MAC Weekly Re-Cap (November 15, 2009)
November 16th, 2009 by Nick Gerogosian
Ohio at Buffalo
Nick’s Pick: Ohio 17 – Buffalo 16
Actual Score: Ohio 27 – Buffalo 24
Comment: As we predicted, this game was very close with the Bobcats prevailing in a contest mutually scored a little higher than we thought. Theo Scott completed 22 of 28 passes for 221 yards while LaVon Brazill had a career-high 10 catches for 99 yards for the Bobcats. Matt Weller’s 47-yard field goal with 1:25 left was the difference. Naaman Roosevelt had eight catches for 165 yards and scored three touchdowns for Buffalo as he became the school’s all-time receiving yards leader with 3,551. The teams combined to score 28 points in a 3:19 span in the first half.
Toledo at Central Michigan
Nick’s Pick: Central 45 – Toledo 34
Actual Score: Central 56 – Toledo 28
Comment: We knew the Chips would win and score a ton of points, and sadly for Rocket fans, we knew how bad Toledo’s defense and the excessive turnovers only added to that problematic unit. Dan LeFevour ran for four touchdowns and passed for two more; LeFevour threw for 341 yards through the air while Bryan Schroeder rushed for 105 yards. The Chippewas defeated the Rockets for fifth straight season. The Chippewas scored 49 consecutive points after Toledo took a 14-7 lead on the opening play of the second quarter. Toledo had five turnovers.
Ball State at NIU
Nick’s Pick: NIU 36 – Ball State 21
Actual Score: NIU 26 – Ball State 20
Comment: Give the Cardinals credit for playing touch football and never giving up. While their record is abysmal, the effort is there every week and they have lost a lot of close contests this year. The Cardinals dropped their sixth game by seven or fewer points. BSU had more total offense than the Huskies, 301-225.
BGSU at Miami
Nick’s Pick: Miami 35 – BGSU 33
Actual Score: BGSU 35 – Miami 14
Comment: We missed this one folks and “the Miami Whammy” didn’t happen again to the Falcons this year. Freddie Barnes scored three touchdowns for the Falcons; Barnes is the nation’s leading receiver had 10 receptions for 109 yards. He now has 117 catches for 1,285 yards and 12 receiving touchdowns this season. Miami’s Zac Dysert threw three interceptions and was sacked six times.
Temple at Akron
Nick’s Pick: Temple 26 – Akron 17
Actual Score: Temple 56 – Akron 17
Comment: Here is a tale of two programs going in opposite directions right now. Akron led 17-7 with 3:06 left in the first quarter before Temple scored 49 unanswered points and extended its longest win streak since finishing 1973 on an eight-game run. Temple rushed for 258-yards and had 403-yards of total offense to 247 for the Zips.
Western at Eastern
Nick’s Pick: Western 31 – Eastern 16
Actual Score: Western 35 – Eastern 14
Comment: We pretty much nailed this game. The Broncos Tim Hiller threw for 275 yards and four while Brandon West ran for 140 yards and a score. EMU’s Alex Gillett rushed for 105-yards and a TD. In their final home game, Eastern had just 3,200 fans in attendance.
***Nick’s Picks went 5-1 this weekend and stand at 67-25 YTD.
