EAGLEBANK BOWL PREVIEW

By Daniel Freer | December 19, 2008

shun-white EAGLEBANK BOWL PREVIEWThe inaugural EagleBank Bowl (December 20th, 11AM, ESPN) will be held at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC…with a compelling matchup between Wake Forest of the ACC vs. Navy…two teams who have already met earlier this season (won by Navy 24-17 over Wake in Winston-Salem, NC).

The key matchup in this bowl game will be the Demon Deacons defense, led by Butkus Award winning LB Aaron Curry, as they try to stop the Midshipmen’s nation-leading rush offense…and its leading rusher, SB Shun White (photo, thanks IconSMI) Read the rest of this entry »

Head2Head Playoffs Round 1: Top Value Plays

By Topher Dean | December 18, 2008

Head2Head Playoffs Round 1: Top Value PlaysWelcome to the playoffs! You had great season but you can forget all about it starting…now. You have zero points. You probably have an invalid lineup and even though you may have went 14-0 you could still get outcoached by the guy that went 4-10 and stumbled into the playoffs based on points.

You can say your goodbyes to guys like Chase Coffman and Jermaine Gresham. They have no place in your playoff lineups at their new prices. They earned their pay raises but with us they just earned a slab of pine. Some old faces are still pertinent but there are a lot of new ones as well, so do your homework even though I already did most of it for you.

The ratings for round one of the H2H playoffs only include those players participating in bowl games prior to January 1. Check back for round two of the H2H playoffs as those ratings will be released on December 29.

BlitzIndex Breakdown: Offense and defense efficiency ratings

By Vince Mullins | December 16, 2008

As we approach the kickoff of college football bowl season this Saturday, I thought it would be important to update the BlitzIndex not only for the defense efficiency ratings, but also the offense so you can better identify mismatches.

Nyan Boateng gets jacked up

Whether you are analyzing matchups for Head2Head Playoffs, to get an edge in the water cooler talk, or whatever your entertainment purpose might be, the BlitzIndex will help you see way beyond the usual “by the game” statistics.

As we continue our bowl coverage, you will see these stats laid out for you, but after the jump is all the raw data. Read the rest of this entry »

PODCAST: Bowl Preview, Head2Head style

By Vince Mullins | December 16, 2008

Interviews and podcasts are flying around here this week as we man up (geek up?) the college football bowl games that start this Saturday.

Yesterday, it was the replay of our fantasy journalist draft of our favorite bowl games, today it is an in-depth interview with the Head2Head expert analyst himself Topher Dean. Topher started his own blog at our Ning Forum and has quickly established himself as a tremendous resource for all H2H College Salary Cap fans.

ACC 2008 ALL-FANTASY TEAM

By Daniel Freer | December 15, 2008

jonathandwyer ACC 2008 ALL-FANTASY TEAMYou are the top RB in high school a couple of seasons ago…and for your second season of college football, you get a new head coach.  Is he going to be the Grinch…or Santa Claus?

If your new coach is the run-at-all-times Paul Johnson, your new coach is the latter…definitely.

Georgia Tech RB Jonathan Dwyer photo, thanks IconSMI), our Fantasy College Blitz:  ACC Fantasy Player of the Year, may have been the one actually delivering the gifts for the Yellow Jackets this season, rushing for nearly 1200 yards and 10 TDs (through November 22nd games).

Dwyer, a sophomore from Marietta, GA (Kell HS), was the main cog in the Georgia Tech option game.  As of the time of this writing, it still seems rival Georgia is still trying to catch Dwyer and his backfield mates…like most of the other GT opposition.

BIG EAST 2008 ALL-FANTASY TEAM

By Daniel Freer | December 15, 2008

donaldbrown BIG EAST 2008 ALL-FANTASY TEAMSometimes, sharing is not the best thing…

Especially in football, in which you are allowed to use only one football per play.

But, when the University of Connecticut decided to give the ball on a regular basis to RB Donald Brown, our Fantasy College Blitz:  Big East Fantasy Player of the Year(photo, thanks IconSMI), the Huskies unleashed one of the top RBs in all of college football for 2008.

Brown, a junior from Atlantic Highlands, NJ (Red Bank Catholic HS), ran all over Big East and non-conference opposition for 1633 yards and 16 TDs (statistics through November 22nd games), leading the Huskies to an appearance in the International Bowl in Toronto on January 3rd, 2009.

His statistics are even more impressive because, at times, UConn struggled passing the football…allowing defenses to key on him exclusively.   Brown just kept on running, and running….

PODCAST: Bowl Game Previews - Fantasy Journalist Draft

By Vince Mullins | December 15, 2008

Yes, I appreciate this title is confusing, so here is a synopsis - Daniel Freer, Jason Roberts and I are bowl game freaks. We each want to do bowl game previews but found it difficult to coordinate who would cover which game.

From my mind arose this clatter - we would do a snake draft to fairly distribute game coverage. The following is not just a “live draft”, but we all throw out some snippets about each game as we go along. And in case you are wondering, Daniel only picked one bowl that had a “Big Six” conference participant.

MWC 2008 ALL-FANTASY TEAM

By Daniel Freer | December 14, 2008

00732247_byu_v_ucla MWC 2008 ALL-FANTASY TEAMNo surprises from the Mountain West Conference, at least when it comes from one of its most productive players.

Brigham Young University QB Max Hall (photo, thanks IconSMI), our MWC Fantasy Player of the Year, again was the top QB in the conference.  The Cougar QB had a stellar 2008 season, throwing for over 3600 yards and 34 TDs (stats through the Nov 22nd games).

Hall, from Mesa, AZ (Mountain View HS), and his BYU teammates, were guaranteed at least a couple of huge offensive plays per game…and rarely were the Cougars contained.

Hall’s Cougars will meet Arizona in the Las Vegas Bowl on December 20, 2008…in a matchup that is sure to feature a lot of offense from both teams.

Joining the BYU signal-caller on the MWC 2008 All-Fantasy Team are Read the rest of this entry »
