QB UPDATE 09/17/08 (And Other Stuff)

By Daniel Freer | September 17, 2008

4392626_michigan_v_notre_dame QB UPDATE 09/17/08 (And Other Stuff)Give it up for Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis (pictured, on crutches, thanks IconSMI)

During the Fighting Irish’s 35-17 win over Michigan on Saturday, Weis got hit on the backside of his left leg…when one of his own players was blocked into him on a punt return. The Domers coach tore his ACL and MCL, but returned to the sideline in the second half.

Although in a lot of pain, give Weis credit for hanging in there. Of course, I could not notice how it seemed Weis was a little satisfied with his “injury”…he having not played college football. Kind of like “now. I’m one of the guys”.

Not the Mike Gundy “I’m a man…I’m forty” moment from last year…but one of those almost surreal coaching highlights.

Weis added to the “toughness factor” by postponing major knee reconstruction surgery…at least for the time being. I bet the Notre Dame players will now be a little hesitant to complain about their bumps and bruises…might get whacked by coach’s crutch

OREGON:

Ducks QB Justin Roper will be out 2-4 weeks due to a partial ligament tear in his right knee during the first overtime in UO’s 32-26 2OT win at Purdue. The QB duties, at least for the Boise State game this weekend, will be shuffled between Jeremiah Masoli and true-frosh Chris Harper (who led the game-winning TD drive in the second overtime). Oregon lost Nathan Costa earlier in the season due to injury.

WISCONSIN:

Allan Evridge suffered a leg injury late in the Badgers close 13-10 win at Fresno State. At this time not 100% sure who will hand off to P.J. Hill and Company next weekend (bye week)….check back later…

OHIO STATE:

After true-frosh Terrelle Pryor out-performed starter Todd Boeckman in the Buckeyes loss at USC this past Saturday, look for more PT for Pryor, especially in this weekend’s matchup vs Troy. Also, do not be surprised Troy hangs with the Bucks for most of the game, as they tend to play well vs BCS-level schools…clobbering Oklahoma State in 2007, and, giving Georgia a close game Between the Hedges later in the season.

IOWA:

The Hawkeyes have a nice dilemma…both Jake Christensen and Ricky Stanzi have performed well in recent weeks. Whenever you have a situation where two QBs are in the mix, good or bad for the team, it makes it tough for fantasy owners. Best bet is to keep the Iowa QBs in mind for later in the season, as one of them may emerge as the certain starter.
