Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl Preview
December 26th, 2009 by Nick Gerogosian
Dec. 30: Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl – Boise, ID
4:30 p.m. – ESPN
Bowling Green (7-5, 6-2 MAC) vs. Idaho (7-5, 4-4 Western Athletic Conference)
Note: Bowling Green is making its fourth bowl appearance since 2003 (2003 Motor City Bowl; 2004 GMAC Bowl; 2008 GMAC Bowl).
Comment: Idaho’s Robb Akey may have deserved the national coach of the year award more than anything this year. The Vandals were 2-10 last season and 18-76 since 2001 and are making their first bowl birth since 1998. Look for this game to be a high scoring affair as Idaho is averaging 31.83 points per game while Bowling Green is averaging 27.33 points per game. Bowling Green features the nation’s best receiver statistically in Freddie Barnes. Idaho ranks 10th nationally in passing and should have an easy time against the Falcons pass defense, which has vastly improved with the return of safety PJ Mahone. Expect this game to go down to the wire with the team who has the ball last possibly pulling out a photo-finish victory.
Nick’s Pick: Idaho 28 – BGSU 27
