Saturday Morning College Football Breakfast Burrito

By Vince Mullins | September 13, 2008

all the week’s stuff and last-minute continuous updates until noon all wrapped up tight in a Lubbock-style burrito, no matter how soaked it might be...

and I hope your Friday Night was better than Vince Young’s. This situation demands some humor but I just can’t find any - exceptionally sad days for one of college football’s legends, regardless of the circumstances or the motivation for his actions.

PINE TIME or PRIME TIME - QB | RB | WR/TE

SCHEDULE CHANGES due to Hurricane Ike…it is up to date but pay particular attention to LSU, Arkansas St., TCU, Tulane (I know it is inside), Texas Tech, Nebraska, Houston, Mississipi St. Found an interesting link on weather.com to help here. OOH - animated radar at National Weather Service here.

INJURY UPDATES

Will Carroll’s Triage Time

Have you heard that Ohio State RB Chris “Beanie” Wells is now out for the USC game? If I were Tressel, I would put Terrelle Pryor at RB since he appears the most talented ball-carrier. Yes, I know that he is not used to the angles of attack from tailback and such, but wouldn’t you think he could make something work? But if Tressel brought vanilla offenses to the last two BCS national championship games, you think he has something up his sleeve for this? Methinks no.

I gave some love to GT WR Demaryius Thomas this week, but his undisclosed injury likely has him out this week. Officially questionable.

ASU RB Keegan Herring injured his hammy against Stanford last week and is likely out vs UNLV. I only include him since a friend of mine picked him in the second round of an 18-team all-FBS league. Yikes.

Marshall TE Cody Slate has been hobbled with a knee injury since Week One and hasn’t been in contact drills all week. Likely he was an early pick at TE, but is questionable for Memphis but could play (scroll way down). Lee Smith has saved the Herd by playing well.

Cincy QB Dustin Grutza is out indefinitely with leg surgery. Tony Pike likely the starter. Now you see why Ben Mauk kept up the fight to get the extra year of eligibility.

UConn RB Andre Dixon reinjured his ankle again, and Donald Brown has been one of the nice stories of the early season now leading “Big Six” Conferences in rushing. Continue to start Brown especially against Virginia.

TIDBITS

Missouri QB Chase Daniel needs 52 yards passing to be Tigers’ all-time leading passer, eclipsing Brad Smith

Chase Clement and Jarett Dillard are second all-time in career TD pass “hook-ups” and Dillard ran his streak of games with at least two catches to 38 games.

Remember what happens after Week 3? Yep, many fewer non-conference paycheck games so for fantasy that means that all those small school guys will start to hit their stride. But I wouls also be remiss if I didn’t remind you that our exclusive BlitzIndex defense analysis fires up this weekend to help you make more informed decisions on your starting lineups and matchups! Stay tuned for that on Sundays!
