Lou Saban and Alabama prove again to be best defense in college football, but was the Florida Gator defense any way to test that theory? Lots of the usual suspects in this Top 25, but also some sneaky new teams like the Ohio Bobcats and the Vanderbilt Commodores. Michigan hasn’t played this good of defense since the middle of the Lloyd Carr regime. Kansas State continues to play opportunistic defense as a truly sneaky Big 12-2 contender.
Here are the top 25 defense to NOT play your guys against… BlitzIndex Rank, stats thru Oct 1, 2001

Can you believe it…the fantasy regular season is just about over for all of your leagues!
Gosh…it seems like yesterday when we were just ruminating over our fantasy drafts. That “fantasy bust” you picked first in your fantasy draft (or paid 9/10 of your auction salary cap on) looked like a sure-fire fantasy-star three months ago…before he tore his patellar tendon while stealing a big-screen TV from his agents’ girlfriends house.
However, for you all who selected wisely…the fruits of your smart labor will be rewarded this weekend, especially those who have Oklahoma QB Landry Jones. Read the rest of this entry →
Nothing troubles a fantasy owner more than one of their star players and his team having a “week off”. With the current set-up of 12 regular season games in 14 weeks by the NCAA FBS schools, there will be at least one week off for every FBS member.
However, some schools will have a week off….even as they play that week. Witness the Oregon Ducks, who play Washington State this coming Saturday. Their week off is scheduled for the following week (October 16), but, with a game at hapless Washington State this weekend, QB Darron Thomas (photo, thanks OregonLive.com) and his Ducks are probably going to have a lighter week preparing for the total destruction of the Pac-10 doormat Cougars. Heck, Oregon’s toughest challenge will be choosing which far-out uniforms they will wear for the game. Read the rest of this entry →
For the first weekend of games in October, there is a notable decline in sure-fire, play-them-this-week fantasy QBs from previous weeks. Gone are the easy non-conference games for the high-octane programs. Now, the games get a little more tougher, and a little more meaningful, for the big-time programs.
There will be some exceptions this week….notably Kellen Moore (photo, thanks Scout.com) and his Boise State Broncos. Read the rest of this entry →
Most are familiar with the story of Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett, our Fantasy CollegeBlitz – SEC Fantasy Player of the Year….how he started out at Michigan (starting some games as a true freshman), and left the program after a coaching change in Ann Arbor that contrasted to the style of play Mallett was familiar with.
Fortunately, another school was in the process of a coaching change….bringing in a coach (Bobby Petrino) with an offense suited to Mallett’s ability and talent.
Woooo Pig Soooie….a new Arkansas Razorback legend was born.
Mallett (photo, thanks IconSMI), a sophomore from Texarkana, TX (Texas HS), won our SEC FPOY honor by throwing for nearly 3200 yards and 28 TDs….also adding 2 rushing TDs (stats quoted are through November 21st games).
