2009 BIG TEN ALL-FANTASY TEAM

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

DarrylClarkWith a number of receivers using up their eligibility after the 2008 season, a few experts were not sure that Penn State would put up big numbers at the QB position in 2009.

Well….they were wrong….

Penn State QB Daryll Clark ended up having a big season….big enough to win the 2009 Fantasy College Blitz – Big Ten Fantasy Player of the Year honor.

Clark (photo, thanks SportsIllustrated.com), a senior from Youngstown, OH (Ursuline HS), led the Nittany Lions with nearly 2800 yards passing, 23 passing TDs, and rushed for 7 additional TDs (stats quoted are through November 21st games).

Penn State finished the 2009 season at 10-2 and earned a trip to the Capital One Bowl in Orlando on New Years Day.

Big 10 Week 12 Bookends: Buckeyes Stand Alone Atop Big 10

Daniel Herron

Ohio State Buckeyes Daniel Herron (thanks Icon SMI)

The Buckeyes wrapped up the regular season by winning the Big Ten crown outright and defeating perennial rival Michigan for the 6th straight year.  The Buckeyes didn’t do it on Terrelle Pryor’s passing game either.  He only had 67 yards passing but he made smart plays and did have one TD pass.  Instead the Buckeyes ran the ball and they ran the ball and they ran it some more.  Tressell exploited the lack of run defense all day.  Daniel Herron rushed for 96 yards, Brandon Saine rushed for 84 plus a TD and Pryor ran for 74.  Michigan as a team only rushed for 80 yards in the game.  My favorite Wolverine Tate Forcier had a rough day throwing 4 interceptions but he did pass for 226 yards.  Roy Roundtree had 116 yards receiving in the game.

Now for another important game this weekend, I am happy to announce the Bronze Pig trophy goes to Iowa.  That trophy is the prettiest thing to talk about from that game.  In what has to be one of the poorest efforts of the Hawkeye season they escape with a 12-0 win and the pig trophy.  Too bad you can’t get fantasy points for punts.  The teams combined for 17 punts on the day.  Ugly!  Iowa QB James Vandenberg had 117 yards passing.  RB Adam Robinson ran for 72 and Brandon Wegher rushed for 26 and the only TD of the day. Colt McCoyThe 2009 season is winding down…

A good number of fantasy owners are already in planning for 2010, because, 2009 is effectively over.  A smaller number of you have 2009 still to worry about….whether making your post-season or already in your post-season.

Fortunately, for those still around, it is a good week for the top fantasy QBs.  While there are some big contests in many conferences on the slate for this week, a few schools have easy conference matchups, or, non-conference games.

One of those non-conference matchups, yours truly will be in attendance.  Texas QB Colt McCoy (photo, thanks IconSMI) faces UCF on Saturday, in one of those late-season, somewhat inter-sectional matchups in Austin.

Oh, and play McCoy this weekend, if you have him Read the rest of this entry →
