Senior Bowl Day Four – North Practice Report

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Today I will share my thoughts on the North Team, recapping some of the observations I had over the last two days.  It is as if I am at two different events when at the North practice opposed to the South, with just the amount of fans and media coverage watching the South.  This is the 4th year in a row I have attended the Senior Bowl week and this year was easily the craziest, but still an amazing experience thus far.

I was not impressed with Dan LeFevour (Central Michigan) or Tony Pike (Cincinnati) in the Wednesday’s practice as they both were not throwing the ball with any authority in what appeared to me as a deliberate attempt to be more accurate.  However, that totally changed today as I thought both QBs were throwing the ball with much more zip while still remaining on target.  I don’t think either player has helped their draft status here in Mobile, but they showed enough to remain in that second tier group of QBs. 2009 MAC ALL-FANTASY TEAM

DanLeFevourPossibly the greatest QB in Mid-American Conference history….

Many would think of former Miami (Ohio) QB, and, current Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger as the greatest.  Or, perhaps, the old-timers would consider former Toledo great Chuck Ealey…who led the Rockets to three straight MAC titles and three straight bowl wins  in the late 1960′s-early 1970′s.

However, there is one QB that may top them all…Central Michigan QB Dan LeFevour, who is our 2009 Fantasy College Blitz MAC Fantasy Player of the Year.

LeFevour (photo, thanks MACSports) fired up another fine year for the Chippewas, leading them to their third MAC title in the past four years.  The Chips QB has a number of MAC records and NCAA records collected over his four-year career….most impressive is his 148 total TDs (passing and rushing)…which is the new NCAA all-time career mark.

LeFevour, a senior from Downers Grove, IL (Benet Academy), had a stellar 2009 season, throwing for 2533 yards and 22 TDs…while rushing for 627 yards and 14 rushing TDs (stats quoted through November 21, 2009 games)

On the 2009 MAC All-Fantasy Team, joining LeFevour are… Read the rest of this entry →

MAC recap: Chippewas and Bobcats in the title game

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Congratulations to Central Michigan and Ohio University for winning the west and east divisions respectively.  The Chippewas and Bobcats will play for the MAC title on Friday night, December 4 at Detroit’s Ford Field.  Kickoff is 8pm and the game will be shown live on ESPN2.

Temple / Ohio

Nick’s Pick:   Temple 26 – Ohio 20

Actual Score:  Ohio 35 – Temple 17

Comment:  Theo Scott had a career day and certainly looked like Superman in the Bobcats win over the Owls.  Scott was 17 of 21 for 324 yards and had scoring passes of 9, 65 and 4 yards; he also scored on runs of 17 and 43 yards.  The Bobcats won their fourth straight game and Temple had its school-record nine-game winning streak snapped.  Matt Brown rushed for 172 yards on 25 carries for Temple with Bernard Pierce out.  Ohio put up more total offense than Temple as well; 494-378, in a game that featured two of the league’s best defenses.

NIU / Central Michigan

Nick’s Pick:   Central 38 – NIU 24

Actual Score:  Central 45 – NIU 31

Comment:  Dan LeFevour threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns in the final home game of his record-setting career and Bryan Anderson set an NCAA all-divisions record with at least one reception in 52 straight games. The previous record of 51 was held by Taurean Henderson of Texas Tech and Michael Larkin of Miami (Ohio).  Bryan Schroeder rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries for Central.  Huskie QB Chandler Harnish passed for 206 yards as the Chips put 512 yards of total offense to just 332 for Northern. FCB FANTASY PLAYER OF THE WEEK….Dan LeFevour, QB, Central Michigan

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

DanLeFevourYou figure that, sometime this season, the Mid American Conference’s all-time leading passer would win a Player of the Week award.

Central Michigan QB Dan LeFevour (photo, thanks CMU Sports) finally did, as he is the latest recipient of the Fantasy College Blitz Fantasy Player of the Week award.

LeFevour, a native of Downers Grove, IL, threw for 344 yards and 4 TDs in the Chippewas 35-3 win over Ball State, in a game played on November 18th.  Also, the Chips QB fired up 59 rushing yards and a rushing TD on the Cardinals.

In a surprisingly low scoring game, the Chips won at BG behind Dan LeFevour’s 275-yard passing and rushing performance. BG’s Tyler Sheehan passed for 341 and Freddie Barnes was on the receiving end of 172 of those yards. The Falcons were held to just 20-yards rushing and had two turnovers while Central had none.

Nick’s Pick: Central 44 – BGSU 35

Actual Score: Central 24 – BGSU 10

NIU at Miami (O)

Chad Spann rushed 156-yards of NIU’s 262-yards of total offense as the Huskies held off winless Miami in Oxford.  Zac Dysert passed for 348-yards and nearly brought back the RedHawks from a 17-0 second quarter deficit.

Nick’s Pick: NIU 33 – Miami 16

Actual Score: NIU 27 – Miami 22

Ball State at EMU

Look at these ridiculous stats; Ball State rushed for 463-yards and passed for 1-yard.  Yes, one yard…MiQuale Lewis rushed for 301 (nation high for the season) and Cory Sykes added 203 as the Cardinals held the ball for nearly 34-minutes.  Eastern had just 239-yards of total offense but due to three BSU turnovers led 27-13 in the third quarter.

Nick’s Pick: Ball State 27 – Eastern 17

Actual Score: Ball State 29 – Eastern 27
