Nothing troubles a fantasy owner more than one of their star players and his team having a “week off”. With the current set-up of 12 regular season games in 14 weeks by the NCAA FBS schools, there will be at least one week off for every FBS member.
However, some schools will have a week off….even as they play that week. Witness the Oregon Ducks, who play Washington State this coming Saturday. Their week off is scheduled for the following week (October 16), but, with a game at hapless Washington State this weekend, QB Darron Thomas (photo, thanks OregonLive.com) and his Ducks are probably going to have a lighter week preparing for the total destruction of the Pac-10 doormat Cougars. Heck, Oregon’s toughest challenge will be choosing which far-out uniforms they will wear for the game. Read the rest of this entry →

The eyes of fantasy players always seem to light up a little bit more when the Western Athletic Conference is mentioned…it means “a lot of offense” in Fantasy-Speak.
And, for 2010, it could mean even more offense than in past years, as Boise State and Nevada return a good part of their offense from last season. Also, some coaching changes around the league may upgrade some of the WAC’s weaker offenses.
You can be assured that fantasy players and leagues around the land will be jockeying to draft WAC talent like Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick (photo, thanks Scout.com) very early on… Read the rest of this entry →

“I wanna dump him…he is a bust“.
I heard a lot of this talk early in the 2009 season from fantasy players in regard to our WAC Fantasy Player of the Year. I advised everyone concerned to stay with this player….he will eventually have a break-out season.
Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick (photo, thanks USA Today), our Fantasy College Blitz – Western Athletic Conference Fantasy Player of the Year, did not win the honor because he made this humble scribe look like a genius. He wins the honor for being, arguably, the most productive player in college football for the last two-thirds of the season.
The junior from Turlock, CA (Pitman HS) Pistol-whipped his opponents, passing for 1734 yards and 16 TDs, and, rushing for another 1126 yards and scoring 16 TDs (stats quoted through November 21st games). Kaepernick was also our 2008 FCB WAC Fantasy Player of the Year.
Joining Kaepernick on the WAC All-Fantasy Team are… Read the rest of this entry →

Earlier this season, a few were wondering when our Week Eight Fantasy Player of the Week would finally start producing.
Well, he produced yesterday. Big Time.
Our Fantasy College Blitz Fantasy Player of the Week, Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick (photo, thanks IconSMI), has finally shaken off all of his early season doldrums…and opened up the Pistol offense on Idaho.
In Nevada’s 70-45 win over their visitors from the Gem State, the rangy QB from Turlock, CA vandalized the Vandals defense, rushing for 230 yards and 4 TDs. And, proving that he is more than just someone with long legs, Kaepernick also threw for another 170 yards and 2 TDs.
Note that Idaho, coming into the game at Nevada, was 6-1….and enjoying one of its better seasons in many years.

Pat Benetar once sang about “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”.
With the Pistol offense run by Nevada, they will be firing a lot of shots in 2009. And delivering most of those shots will be QB Colin Kaepernick (photo, thanks IconSMI), who is one of the most productive QBs in America.
The Pistol offense, used extensively by Chris Ault and his staff at Nevada, has been chewing up yards on the ground and in the air for the past few seasons. It is so common now, most schools are using it on a part-time basis…some on a full-time basis. The modified shotgun formation (where the HB/RB lines up behind the QB…with the QB a few yards behind center) is even being used by NFL teams.
Definitely the Wolf Pack offense will give plenty of best shots in 2009. Read the rest of this entry →
