The MAC failed to win a non-conference game this weekend as Kent State lost at Baylor while Miami lost at home to 10th ranked Cincinnati. Both of these teams played better than expected and Kent State actually generated more total offense than the Baylor Bears did in Waco, TX. On the MAC front, you could easily make an argument that there two “games of the week.” Ball State scored a touchdown and ran the “Boise State Statue of Liberty Play” for a two-point conversion to take a 30-29 lead with 42-seconds remaining. Toledo responded by throwing a 51-yard TD strike with 27-seconds left in a one-play drive to steal a road win. Meanwhile at Doyt-Perry Field in Bowling Green, the Falcons fought until the end but came up 14-yards short as Ohio held on for a dramatic 44-37 victory. BGSU host #8 Boise State on Sat., Sept. 26 at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN Game Plan. The Falcons have declared the game an ORANGE OUT under the lights at Doyt Perry Stadium, as Boise State will be the highest-ranked opponent to ever play at BG.
NIU earned another road win against a Big Ten opponent for the MAC as the Huskies downed Purdue 28-21 last Saturday. This marked the second consecutive week for a MAC team to defeat a Big Ten foe on the road as Central Michigan defeated
Michigan State 29-27 on Sept. 12 at East Lansing, Mich.
Central Michigan QB Dan LeFevour is five yards shy of becoming the seventh MAC QB to surpass 10,000 career passing yards. LeFevour threw for 92 yards in the Chippewas’ 48-0 win over Alcorn State.
Miami WR Eugene Harris caught six passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-26 road loss at Western Michigan.
Kent State freshman QB Spencer Keith made his first career start and connected on eight of his first ten attempts in a 34-14 loss to Iowa State. Keith completed 21 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns, including a 44-yard score to freshman RB Dri Archer. Read the rest of this entry →
Football fans in Northeast Ohio will have a special treat this Saturday, Sept. 19th as three MAC schools will host college football. Toledo will host Ohio State at Cleveland Browns Stadium at Noon, followed by Akron hosting for the first time in school history a Big Ten opponent as Indiana visits InfoCision Stadium at 3:30 p.m. while Kent State will complete the day at home against Iowa State at 7:00 p.m
The University of Akron opened their new football stadium, InfoCision Stadium — Summa Field, last Saturday with a 41-0 win over Morgan State. A sellout crowd of 27,881 were on hand for the shutout win.
Toledo and Central Michigan knocked off Big-12 and Big Ten opponents last weekend. Toledo exploded with a 54-38 win over Colorado Friday night and Central Michigan came from behind to defeat Michigan State in East Lansing, 29-27. Read the rest of this entry →
Nine MAC Teams on television this week as the 2009 MAC football season kicks off. Ball State will begin their season in the national spotlight with a Thursday night showdown against North Texas on ESPNU. Bowling Green will also launch their season Thursday night as they host Troy. On Saturday, the MAC will start the season against six BCS schools; four of these six opponents are from the Big Ten. Miami will begin their season on the national stage as they face the Kentucky Wildcats in the “Battle of the River” at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.
