FROM THE SHOTGUN….Week Eleven QB Start/Sit

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

TimTebowWith most fantasy leagues well into their playoffs, we will go in a slightly different direction with our From The Shotgun article this week.

By now, you have a pretty good idea whether your fantasy QBs are productive, or, are not (the latter is especially for those done with 2009 and already planning for 2010).

However, some of your top fantasy QBs may be walking into one of those late-season land-mine games….maybe not so  much as a loss for their real teams, but, one of those games where the score is closer than expected….and the stats page does not look so pretty.

Even Florida QB Tim Tebow (photo, thanks IconSMI) is not a safe lock to play this week, as his Gators travel to South Carolina… Read the rest of this entry →

FROM THE SHOTGUN….Week Ten QB Start/Sit

Colt McCoyThe 2009 season is winding down…

A good number of fantasy owners are already in planning for 2010, because, 2009 is effectively over.  A smaller number of you have 2009 still to worry about….whether making your post-season or already in your post-season.

Fortunately, for those still around, it is a good week for the top fantasy QBs.  While there are some big contests in many conferences on the slate for this week, a few schools have easy conference matchups, or, non-conference games.

One of those non-conference matchups, yours truly will be in attendance.  Texas QB Colt McCoy (photo, thanks IconSMI) faces UCF on Saturday, in one of those late-season, somewhat inter-sectional matchups in Austin.

Oh, and play McCoy this weekend, if you have him Read the rest of this entry →

SEC Bookends: Who Cares Who’s #1?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Whether you think Florida or Alabama is the #1 team in all the land, there isn’t much question that the SEC continues to be the best conference.  Take a look at some of these stat lines:

WildRebel Dexter McCluster hides well behind his O-line (Icon SMI)

WildRebel Dexter McCluster hides well behind his O-line (Icon SMI)

Dexter McCluster, WR, Ole Miss (123 rush; 7 receptions, 137 yards, 1 TD)
Yikes; that’s one heck of a line for McCluster, who finally got close to 30 touches on offense and came through in a huge way for the Rebels.  This is really the first time all season we’ve seen anything like this from him, so let’s hope he can build on it.

Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina (8 receptions, 161 yards, 1 TD)
Vanderbilt put up one heck of an effort against the Gamecocks, but they had absolutely no answer for the true freshman; his 43-yard TD reception proved to be the final margin, but even with that the domination Jeffery had over this game was impressive.

Jevan Snead, QB, Ole Miss (22-33, 332 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INT; 17 rush, 1 TD)
Snead was involved in every Ole Miss TD in some form or fashion, and finally turned in one of those weeks we’ve been waiting on from him all season.  Again, as has been the case with Snead all season, we’ll have to see if he can build on it, but it’s a step in the right direction.  For once.

FROM THE SHOTGUN….Week Nine QB Start/Sit

D048360035.JPGThe 2009 fantasy season is winding down.

For some of you, this is the last week of regular-season fantasy games….for others, it is the next-to-last game.  Whichever category you fall under, this means jockeying for playoff spots….or jockeying to stay out of the dreaded “fantasy league cellar”.

Week Nine will be an interesting one.  Although most FBS conferences are in the thick of their conference action, some notable programs (and QBs) are getting a breather this week.

If you have Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen (photo, thanks GoIrish)…you might think The Great Pumpkin was Santa Claus….for he gets a trip to San Antonio to face woeful Washington State. Read the rest of this entry →

FROM THE SHOTGUN…Week Eight QB Start/Sit

76904540SD004_MARSHALL_V_HOCan you believe it….already Week Eight!

The 2009 college football season, for the fantasy crowd, is almost over.  Most of your leagues are in the home stretch…fighting for playoff spots…upsetting the playoff apple-cart for your rivals….trying to keep out of the cellar….wondering why your star player early in the season has now turned into Buster McBust

In dealing with college football QBs for Fantasy College Blitz, I have noticed that, at this time of the season, the QB position seems to produce fewer numbers….especially those at the BCS-level schools.   Generally, the QBs at the BCS-level schools are playing their conference foes, and, their tougher ones as the season progresses.

Fortunately, some QBs are immune to the “end of season doldrums”.  One of them, Houston QB Case Keenum (photo, thanks Scout.com), seems to put up better numbers playing against his conference foes. Read the rest of this entry →
