2008 TOP FANTASY QBs…So Far

By Daniel Freer | October 8, 2008

colt-mccoy 2008 TOP FANTASY QBs...So Far Soooo…who is really the top fantasy QB of 2008?

Do you have one of the top game-breakers?  Or, did you get stuck with the top game-wreckers?

As we get into the home-stretch of the fantasy season, who are the top producing QBs in 2008?  Did Texas QB Colt McCoy (pictured, thanks IconSMI ) join the elite ranks?  Did your mystery QB from Goatlips Tech suddenly find brillance and crack the top 10?

(Yes, I know there is no school in Division I-FBS called Goatlips Tech).

Here are your top 10 fantasy QBs of 2008…so far

1.  DAVID JOHNSON - Tulsa: Many felt Tulsa would not replace the production of 2007 star QB Paul Smith, but Johnson has filled in nicely, tossing a nations-best 23 TD passes.  Although he may not match his predecessor’s 60 total TDs from 2007, Johnson is still on track to finish as the top fantasy QB in the land.

2.  SAM BRADFORD - Oklahoma: After setting all kinds of freshman passing records last season, Bradford shows no signs of "sophomore slump" with his 1605 passing yards and 18 TD passes.  In the offense-happy Big XII those numbers will rise.

3.  CHASE CLEMENT - Rice: A real dual-threat QB, with 323 yards and 5 TDs rushing to go along with his 16 TD passes.  Earlier this season he set the all-time NCAA TD hook-up record with his top target, WR Jarett Dillard .  Betcha they shatter that record silly before 2008 is done.

4.  GRAHAM HARRELL - Texas Tech: Probably the real surprise on the list, as there are three QBs ahead of the prolific Red Raiders flame-thrower.  Still, Harrell has thrown for 2027 yards and 18 TDs.  Great numbers for most QBs, but a little down from the traditional Harrell numbers.

5.  COLT McCOY - Texas: Big XII infested with great fantasy QBs, and McCoy has shaken off his less-than-stellar 2007 sophomore season.  McCoy has thrown for 16 TDs, while adding 317 yards and 4 scores on the ground.  Underrated by many coming into the 2008 season.

6.  JOSH FREEMAN - Kansas State: You get on this list by rushing for 8 TDs…as most leagues reward QBs more for rushing TDs than passing ones.  Throwing for 12 TDs also helps, too!

7.  CASE KEENUM - Houston: Few have thrown more than his 19 TD passes, and probably would have been a top fantasy QB last season if he was not involved in a 2-QB rotation.

8.  TIM HILLER - Western Michigan: Our first non-Big XII/CUSA QB…Hiller has thrown for nearly 1800 yards and 19 TDs, out-performing many of the MAC QBs who we (er…me) projected ahead of him.

9.  JUICE WILLIAMS - Illinois: Buoyed by some huge stat-making performances, the Illini QB is making good now on more than just wins-losses.  404 yards rushing and 4 rushing TDs a big factor.

10. TODD REESING - Kansas: Half of our top ten come from the Big XII, and Reesing is just as good as his conference counterparts.  His 14 TDs passing and 2 TDs rushing have kept Kansas in the national rankings.
