Before I dig in to the yummy Halloween treats of Week 10 of the fantasy college football season, I want to throw out a bunch of quotes from the Huss Bachelor Party of Vegas Proportions:
We don’t have Bud Light Lime, we have Bud Light Lime….I love this horse Curlin, he’s a lock! Big favorite! Run the trifecta with him to win!….Crap, I still need to bet $5 for the college football contest? OK, guess I will just do a parlay for the night games – lemme see, Bama, Oregon and WTF lets go with Notre Dame…There is no such German name as Sharon…and Sunny and Sky of the Vegan Vixens, great to meet you.
It has been awhile since we discussed this year’s Fantasy Heisman candidates. Quite a few things have happened since the last report. Michael Crabtree has been bumped off the list by the likes of WR Dez Bryant. Crabtree will need some big finishes to get back in the mix, however he is fighting off injury which may kill those chances. On the outside looking in is RB LeSean McCoy, based on the surge in TDs over the last three games (9 TDs in those games). However, the top three RBs have a pretty solid hold on things. Even though QB Dan Johnson has a nice lead over the rest of the field, anything can happen these last few weeks of the fantasy season. Be sure to check back later for more updates.
This past week was a killer for many fantasy teams with Andre Anderson of Tulane and Tyrell Sutton of Northwestern being lost for the season. Anderson especially will single-handily cost many owners the championship because he was a mid-round pick performing like a Top 5 pick which is the formula for fantasy success.
Nate Austin, Tulane : Austin, a true freshman, is expected to get the first opportunity to replace the injured Anderson as the featured back for the Green Wave. Tulane was the only team to offer him a scholarship so it would be foolish to expect him to be a stud out the gate. However with that said Matt Forte and Anderson weren’t highly recruited either but excelled in what is becoming a great system for fantasy running backs. While there is not a ton of info out there on Austin it does appear that he was more of a track guy in high school which tells me that he must be fast and also it is possible his focus on track led to schools not knowing who he is. If you have Anderson or a dud on your roster then I suggest rolling the dice on Austin. Why not? He is fast, could see 20+ carries and plays in a system that seems to give value to fantasy backs.
The world has gone crazy, stuck in the sixth inning for three days, but injuries keep happening, so we’ll focus on those. Right now, my college fantasy team is starting to creep back into things and for my first time playing, I’m pretty happy with my Chase Daniels-led team. 3-6 isn’t great, but it keeps me in reach as I improve past some silly early week mistakes. Let’s make sure you don’t start someone who won’t help you:
Tyrell Sutton RB NORTHWESTERN and CJBacher QB NORTHWESTERN
It’s never good to double up on injuries. With two key players banged up, the Wildcats might have to slow their bowl push. At 6-2, the remaining games will mean the difference between playing on New Year’s Day or one of the lesser bowls that the Big Ten have stacked up. With Bacher , the hamstring appears to be okay. He left in the fourth against Indiana and watched his backup fumble twice, so Pat Fitzgerald really wants to see his QB1 back on the field when they face off with Minnesota in a key game. Sutton, on the other hand, is done for the season with a broken wrist. He’s scheduled for surgery this week, though I couldn’t confirm whether or not that had occurred yet. He could be back for the bowl game, but it’s going to be on Omar Conteh now to get them to a better bowl.
After a four day weekend in Vegas for my so cliche bachelor party, I confirmed how much I love my soon to be bride. I’m not saying that because she reads my articles and would sharpen her teeth in my @$$ if I didn’t say I love her. I say it more because she’s carving a pumpkin right beside me and that knife looks awfully sharp.
Beyond that, I did take away 10 key things: 1. If you go up big the first two days of your trip (I’m talking double your bankroll big), walk away from the craps table and immediately call Southwest. Book the first flight home and check out of your room stat. If you stay the remaining two days, you’ll see it all dwindle away until your down. Call it a hunch.
