2009 INDEPENDENT ALL-FANTASY TEAM
November 28th, 2009 by Daniel Freer
If the option offense was a naval fleet, then Navy QB Ricky Dobbs is it Admiral.
The Midshipmen QB is our Fantasy College Blitz 2009 Independent Fantasy Player of the Year, and highlights the FCB 2009 Independent All-Fantasy Team.
Dobbs (photo, thanks Scout.com), a junior from Douglasville, GA (Douglas County HS), led the Middies with 786 yards rushing and 22 rushing TDs, while throwing for 752 yards and another 4 TDs (stats through November 21st games).
With his 22 rushing TDs, and, with three games left to go in the 2009 season (including a bowl game for bowl-eligible Navy), Dobbs is on track to break…possibly shatter…the NCAA FBS record for rushing TDs in a single-season by a QB (tied with current Florida QB Tim Tebow, who rushed for 22 TDs in 2007).
Dobbs, however, is more than just stats. He led the Middies to an upset of Notre Dame in South Bend a few weeks ago. Also, in the season opener, Dobbs and Navy nearly pulled one of the biggest upsets of the decade, losing 30-26 to Ohio State in Columbus.
Joining Dobbs on the Independent All-Fantasy Team are…
Note: All stats quoted are through November 21st games

QUARTERBACK
Ricky Dobbs – Navy: With three games to go, Dobbs looks to add on to his 22 rushing TDs for 2009

RUNNING BACKS
Marcus Curry – Navy: Although he rushed for only 437 yards and 4 TDs, he was one of the few receiving threats for the Middies with 165 yards and 2 TD catches.
Vince Murray – Navy: Leading rusher in Navy’s option offense, with 796 yards and 5 TDs
Armando Allen – Notre Dame: Kept Fighting Irish opponents a little honest with nearly 700 yards rushing and 216 yards receiving

RECEIVERS
Golden Tate – Notre Dame: Tate (photo, thanks GoIrish.com) was one
of the top fantasy WRs in the nation, snagging nearly 1300 yards and 12 TD catches. Also one of the best punt/kick returners in the land
Michael Floyd – Notre Dame: He would have had more than 710 yards and 7 TDs receiving had he not been sidelined a few games due to injury
Ali Villanueva – Army: The converted offensive lineman (6-10, 280 lbs) had 460 yards and 5 TD grabs in the run-oriented Black Knights offense.

KICKER
Alex Carlton – Army: Scored 67 points for the improved USMA, and made key kicks in win against Vanderbilt.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS
Army: An upgraded defense in 2009 has brought Army on the verge of a bowl bid. Although undersized compared to most of their competition, USMA recorded 24 sacks and grabbed 12 INTs in 2009
