2009 SEC ALL-FANTASY TEAM

December 29th, 2009 by Daniel Freer

RyanMallettMichigan’s loss was surely Arkansas’ gain….

Most are familiar with the story of Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett, our Fantasy College Blitz – SEC Fantasy Player of the Year….how he started out at Michigan (starting some games as a true freshman), and left the program after a coaching change in Ann Arbor that contrasted to the style of play Mallett was familiar with.

Fortunately, another school was in the process of a coaching change….bringing in a coach (Bobby Petrino) with an offense suited to Mallett’s ability and talent.

Woooo Pig Soooie….a new Arkansas Razorback legend was born.

Mallett (photo, thanks IconSMI), a sophomore from Texarkana, TX (Texas HS), won our SEC FPOY honor by throwing for nearly 3200 yards and 28 TDs….also adding 2 rushing TDs (stats quoted are through November 21st games).

Joining Mallett on the SEC All-Fantasy Team are….Note:  Stats quoted are through November 21st games.

QUARTERBACK

Ryan Mallett – Arkansas: Led a young Razorback squad to seven wins and a bowl game.  His former school, Michigan, won five games and is staying home during bowl season.

RUNNING BACKS

Mark Ingram – Alabama: The Crimson Tide’s first-ever Heisman MarkIngramTrophy winner put up some huge numbers…nearly 1400 yards rushing, 12 rushing TDs….along with 3 TD catches.  Ingram (photo, thanks SportsIllustrated.com) leads top-ranked Bama in the National Championship game vs Texas.

Montario Hardesty – Tennessee: The  RB led the resurgence (of sorts) for the Vols program under Lane Kiffin….rushing for over 1100 yards, 9 rushing TDs, and caught a TD pass.

Ben Tate – Auburn: A big reason why Auburn’s offense was improved in 2009, as Tate rushed for over 1200 yards and scored 8 TDs

RECEIVERS

Dexter McCluster – Ole Miss: Although he lined up wherever he dexter mcclusterwanted to….McCluster (photo, thanks zimbio.com) was a hybrid WR-RB who ran more (900+ yards, 6 TDs) than he cuaght (400+ receiving yards, 2 TDs).  McCluster also threw a TD pass in 2009.

Randall Cobb – Kentucky: The Wildcats version of the Wildcat (and McCluster clone), Cobb had more rushing yards and TDs (436 yards-9 TDs) than receiving yards and TDs (403 yards-4 TDs).

Shay Hodge – Ole Miss: Led all Ole Miss players in receiving yards and receiving TDs, with over 900 yards and 7 TDs.

———————————————————-

KICKER

Leigh Tiffin – Alabama: A big reason why Alabama is playing for the National Championship….Tiffin is second among kickers, nationally, in points scored…with 110.

DEFENSE

Florida: The Gators D may have broke down against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, but they were dominant in the 12 games before that….with 31 sacks and 4 defensive TDs
