NFL Mock Draft 2.0 (Jeremy Shory Style)

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

1) Detroit (0-16) Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest- Despite the trade for Peterson, I still think that Detroit uses this on a safe pick and take Curry. He’ll adjust to an Inside LB which wont be too difficult since he did play some MLB in nickel schemes for Wake Forest. Too hard to pass on the talent.

2) St. Louis (2-14) Jason Smith, OT, Baylor- With the recent news of Orlando Pace being let go, it makes this choice even more obvious. They have already signed a much better center in Jason Brown, so now it is time for them to help Marc Bulger out by drafting the best tackle in the draft.

3) Kansas City Chiefs (2-14) Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia- With the trade for Matt Cassel, KC is going to want to protect their investment. They go with arguably the top OT in the draft and provide Cassel with a few extra seconds to get that ball out of his hands. Nice Upgrade here. Read the rest of this entry →

Chip Kelly now coach of Oregon football

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Oregon coaching legend Mike Bellotti has resigned to become athletic director at the school, and offensive whiz Chip Kelly will take over control of the football program.

From a fantasy college football perspective this changes very little of the Duck fortunes – the recent offense has been the Chip Kelly offense, and we can expect to see the same wide open attack to which we’ve grown accustomed.

Bellotti’s departure after 14 years at the helm does signal the end of an era, one that saw the Ducks rise to national prominence.

Oklahoma State Spring Practice report

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Zac Robinson, Oklahoma State QB at first spring practice (Scout)

Zac Robinson, Oklahoma State QB at first spring practice (Scout)

While visiting family in Stillwater I noticed in the paper that the Cowboys opened their Friday practice to the public – guess where I went as the rest of the family went shopping?

It was a typical practice setup in the shadow of T. Boone Pickens Stadium, but what struck me was the turbo tempo at which the Mike Gundy and the coaching staff moved units from station to station. I was also impressed with the lack of “muffin tops” on the linemen – all of them looked leaner than the average behemoths at other programs. I also saw my favorite penalty induced – dropped passes resulted immediately in ten pushups or more.

From a fantasy perspective, the obvious questions are the health of QB Zac Robinson and WR Dez Bryant, both of whom were injured in the Holiday Bowl loss to Oregon. Read the rest of this entry →

NFL Mock Draft 1.0 (Jeremy Shory Style)

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Fantasy College Blitz is excited to announce Jeremy Shory coming on board to share his insight on the NFL Draft.  Jeremy is well-known in the Central Florida area for his ability to beat most of the so-called experts (not me of course) in predicting the NFL Draft.  He will be updating his mock draft several more times before April 25th so enjoy – Drew

1) Detroit (0-16) Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest- First off, Schwartz is a defensive coach which means that he is only going to look to the draft to help an anemic defense. This is his first year as a head coach, so he is not going to want to blow it on a QB like Matt Stafford who is going to be a toss-up. Plus, the front office knows that they will not be able to build a championship caliber team in one year, so they realize that there is a much better crop of QBs in next years draft. This is the first pick of Schwartz’s career, so he will play it safe and go with a guy who he knows will come through. May the Schwartz be with you Mr.Curry(Spaceballs).
