More Wide Receivers go on milk cartons: Bryant, Decker

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Quick update – Dez Bryant decision finally handed down by NCAA – ESPN reports he is out for a calendar year (october to October) meaning next time you see him playing football he will getting paid to do so.

Minnesota WR/CF Eric Decker broke his foot against Ohio State this past weekend and chose to shut it down for the season. He will be getting paid next time you see him, just unsure of which sport.

Also, word is that Syracuse Mike Williams is probable for Cincinnati game after being suspended for team rules violations last weekend. My source says to prepare yourself for William’s plug to be pulled at any time. No comment yet from JohnBoy YaBoy.

MAC Weekly Recap Week 8

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Central Michigan at BGSU

Dan "Dance" LeFevouris the class of the MAC QB (Icon SMI)

Dan "Dance" LeFevour is the class of the MAC QB (Icon SMI)

In a surprisingly low scoring game, the Chips won at BG behind Dan LeFevour’s 275-yard passing and rushing performance. BG’s Tyler Sheehan passed for 341 and Freddie Barnes was on the receiving end of 172 of those yards. The Falcons were held to just 20-yards rushing and had two turnovers while Central had none.

Nick’s Pick: Central 44 – BGSU 35

Actual Score: Central 24 – BGSU 10

NIU at Miami (O)

Chad Spann rushed 156-yards of NIU’s 262-yards of total offense as the Huskies held off winless Miami in Oxford.  Zac Dysert passed for 348-yards and nearly brought back the RedHawks from a 17-0 second quarter deficit.

Nick’s Pick: NIU 33 – Miami 16

Actual Score: NIU 27 – Miami 22

Ball State at EMU

Look at these ridiculous stats; Ball State rushed for 463-yards and passed for 1-yard.  Yes, one yard…MiQuale Lewis rushed for 301 (nation high for the season) and Cory Sykes added 203 as the Cardinals held the ball for nearly 34-minutes.  Eastern had just 239-yards of total offense but due to three BSU turnovers led 27-13 in the third quarter.

Nick’s Pick: Ball State 27 – Eastern 17

Actual Score: Ball State 29 – Eastern 27

SEC Bookends: Who Cares Who’s #1?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Whether you think Florida or Alabama is the #1 team in all the land, there isn’t much question that the SEC continues to be the best conference.  Take a look at some of these stat lines:

WildRebel Dexter McCluster hides well behind his O-line (Icon SMI)

WildRebel Dexter McCluster hides well behind his O-line (Icon SMI)

Dexter McCluster, WR, Ole Miss (123 rush; 7 receptions, 137 yards, 1 TD)
Yikes; that’s one heck of a line for McCluster, who finally got close to 30 touches on offense and came through in a huge way for the Rebels.  This is really the first time all season we’ve seen anything like this from him, so let’s hope he can build on it.

Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina (8 receptions, 161 yards, 1 TD)
Vanderbilt put up one heck of an effort against the Gamecocks, but they had absolutely no answer for the true freshman; his 43-yard TD reception proved to be the final margin, but even with that the domination Jeffery had over this game was impressive.

Jevan Snead, QB, Ole Miss (22-33, 332 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INT; 17 rush, 1 TD)
Snead was involved in every Ole Miss TD in some form or fashion, and finally turned in one of those weeks we’ve been waiting on from him all season.  Again, as has been the case with Snead all season, we’ll have to see if he can build on it, but it’s a step in the right direction.  For once.

FROM THE SHOTGUN….Week Nine QB Start/Sit

Monday, October 26th, 2009

D048360035.JPGThe 2009 fantasy season is winding down.

For some of you, this is the last week of regular-season fantasy games….for others, it is the next-to-last game.  Whichever category you fall under, this means jockeying for playoff spots….or jockeying to stay out of the dreaded “fantasy league cellar”.

Week Nine will be an interesting one.  Although most FBS conferences are in the thick of their conference action, some notable programs (and QBs) are getting a breather this week.

If you have Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen (photo, thanks GoIrish)…you might think The Great Pumpkin was Santa Claus….for he gets a trip to San Antonio to face woeful Washington State. Read the rest of this entry →
