Capital One Bowl Preview

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

CapitalOneBowlLogoI can’t shake the feeling that the Capital One Bowl is a generally vague disappointment this season.  Both Penn State and LSU opened the season as fringe BCS contenders who needed a bit of help to make the national title game; they finished the season 1-3 against teams in the Top 25 when they played them and more importantly 0-5 against teams that are currently in the top 25.  Somehow these teams are ranked 11th and 13th in the BCS for reasons that quite frankly pass understanding to me, although they’re somewhat similar. Alamo Bowl: Texas Tech vs. Michigan State

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

AlamoBowlThe battle cry for the Texas revolution against Mexico was “Remember the Alamo”.  But the phrase I have heard lately is “Will he coach in the Alamo Bowl?”  I don’t know exactly what is going on in Lubbock right now and I am not sure there are many people that know the whole story.  All I know is Texas Tech will be in the game.  Who will coach them is still up in the air.  The Spartans will also field a team but who exactly will be on the field is another question yet to be answered. In case you don’t know, many players were charged with assault from an on campus fight.  How did this become scandal bowl?  Who cares?  We aren’t watching this game for Legal Studies 101 credit.  We want to see some good football. And that is just what this game should deliver. Read the rest of this entry →

FIESTA BOWL PREVIEW

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

KellenMooreFIESTA BOWL:  Boise State vs TCU; Janaury 4, 2010; University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ; 8PM Eastern; FOX

The first BCS Bowl Game, with two oppponents not members of BCS automatic-qualifying conferences, should be a classic confrontation between  the most dominant non-BCS programs of the decade…..the Boise State Broncos and the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs (TCU).

Both Boise State and TCU contain very productive offenses, and, tough slobber-knocking defenses.  Although the two schools may not belong to the more affluent BCS conferences….the 2010 Fiesta Bowl will be one of the best bowl games to close out the 2009 season…. Read the rest of this entry →

Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Preview

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Armed_Forces_BowlBell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl – Houston (10-3) vs Air Force (7-5)

Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, TX December 31st Noon

The one thing we know is that something has to give in this game. Houston’s high octane offense averages 43.9 points per game, good enough to be the 2nd highest scoring FBS team this season. Their dance partner for this bowl game is an Air Force defense that only give up 15.3 points per game, 9th best in the nation. The Falcons only allow 148.66 passing yards per game, the Cougars pass for 450 yards per game. On the other side of the equation, Houston’s defense is a bit porous and the Air Force offense is sporadic at best. However, if the Falcons are able to dictate the tempo of this game, they will give themselves a shot a pulling off the win. Read the rest of this entry →

GMAC Bowl Preview

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

CENTRAL MICHIGAN CHIPPEWAS logoJan. 6:  GMAC Bowl – Mobile, AL

7:00 p.m. – ESPN

Central Michigan (11-2, 8-0 MAC) vs. Troy (9-3, 8-0 Sun Belt)

Note:  Game marks the battle of two conference champions from the MAC and Sun Belt conferences.  Also marks the fourth consecutive bowl appearance for Central Michigan (2006 Motor City Bowl; 2007 Motor City Bowl; 2008 Motor City Bowl).

Comment: Quite possibly this may be one of the most entertaining non-BCS or non-major bowls as each team averages 33-points per game.  Read the rest of this entry →
