Jeremy’s Mock NFL Draft Update

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Sam Bradford, thanks Icon SMI

St Louis Rams: Sam Bradford

This is practically a lock at this point regardless of their personal workout for Colt McCoy.

Detroit Lions: Ndamukong Suh

I’m staying true to this pick especially now that once rumors of Detroit trading for OG Rob Sims from Seattle have been completed and especially now since Detroit trade one of their DT back to Seattle.

Tampa Bay Bucs: Gerald McCoy

If Suh goes to Detroit, the Bucs take McCoy – simple as that. Read the rest of this entry →

MAC Fantasy College Football Spring Briefing

AkronRB Alex Allen was awarded a sixth year of eligibility which provides more depth for new coach Rob Ianello and his staff.  The Zips now return five of their top six rushers from a year ago.  WR Jeremy LaFrance is the only receiver returning with significant production a year ago.  Defensively Akron returns eight starters including most of their defensive front line.  Almondo Sewell is a proven force to build a defense around along with LB Brian Wagner.  QB Matt Rodgers returns after an injury riddled 2009 season.

Ball State

PK Jake Hogue has left the program.  RB MiQuale Lewis earned a medical waiver for an additional year of eligibility due to a torn ACL in 2007.  With the return of Lewis, the RB stable is quite impressive now.  Along with Lewis, there are proven players Cory Sykes, Eric Williams and David Brown returning at RB.  Three quality offensive linemen return in Cameron Lowry, Michael Switzer and Kreg Hunter.  The Cards must replace the right side of the O-line.  The QB derby could get interesting with three very talented and capable prospects, the incumbent Kelly Page, and hotshot freshmen Aaron Mershman and Keith Wenning.  Ball State signed six DBs who will be entering the program this fall.

The Falcons need to replace 16 starters including quarterback Tyler Sheehan and record-setting wide receiver Freddie Barnes.  In addition, BG must replace all three linebackers and three members of the secondary. Altogether the team graduated 22 seniors.  The four players looking to become the new QB are sophomore Aaron Pankratz; redshirt freshmen Matt Schilz and Kellen Pagel; and true freshman Caleb Watkins.  At this point in time, none have established themselves as “the guy.”  The defensive line was the weakest link for the Falcons last season now may become the strength after the graduation of three starting linebackers and three starters in the secondary.  The players being counted on in the defensive trenches are Kevin Alvarado, Chris Jones and Jordan Roussus.

Mock NFL Draft Update: Enter Tim Tebow

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Tim Tebow works out for all of the gathered during the Florida Gators Pro Day (thanks Icon SMI)

The trade of Donovan McNabb obviously got all the headlines; but, it was the trade that most football fans didn’t see or perhaps didn’t care about that had the biggest impact on my latest mock draft.

The Lions trading for Rob Sims from the Seahawks finally has me convinced that they are going to trade Ndamukong Suh.  This minor trade caused changes in 5 of my top 10 picks.  The teens remained stabled but with the trade of Santanio Holmes we see more changes in the picks in the 20s. While the Brandon Marshall pick makes the Broncos pick tougher, in the end didn’t affect this mock. The draft is coming up rather quickly so be sure to check back for updated mocks. COACHING CHANGES 2010….The Fantasy Impact

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Notre Dame Kelly FootballAs we head into the Spring Practice season for Division I-FBS schools, this is a good time to check out all the coaching changes that happened in the off-season….and the impact they will have on fantasy football this upcoming fall.

Almost 20% of Division I-FCS schools changed coaches in the off-season, with the biggest moves taking place at Notre Dame (Brian Kelly…from Cincinnati...photo, thanks SI.com), USC (Lane Kiffin…from Tennessee), and Florida State (Jimbo Fisher….already named head coach before Bobby Bowden retired).

Although there were a large number of coaching moves in the off-season, this does not mean there will be a large impact on fantasy football for the 2010 season.  In fact, a number of the moves brought in similar-type coaches and similar-type offenses to coaching-change schools….and….a number of the schools brought in conservative coaches to replace more up-tempo coaches.  Check out our list of the top Coaching Changes in 2010….and their fantasy impact…

Drew’s NFL Mock Draft: It went to hell after 10

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Texas DE/LB Sergio Kindle, after tackling Alabama QB Greg McElroy

Texas DE/LB Sergio Kindle, after tackling Alabama QB Greg McElroy (thanks Icon SMI)

This is the second edition of my 2010 NFL Mock draft.  While there weren’t a lot of changes in my Top 10 other than flip-flopping Ndamkong Suh and Gerald McCoy, we did see quite the shake-up from pick 11 down.  Dez Bryant has fallen to the bottom of the 1st round as I continue to question his actions this off-season.  Sergio Kindle on the other hand goes from a late 1st rounder all the way up to a Top 15 pick going to the Dolphins.
