Jason Roberts and I woke up too early yesterday to check out the EA Sports / Elite 11 Regional Quarterback camp, but one benefit beyond seeing the next wave of QB talent was finding Chris Leak involved with the proceedings.

I grabbed him for a couple minutes after practice to chat with the Florida Gator all-time leading passer.

Vince Mullins: Catch me up with how your career is unfolding…

Chris Leak: I am currently with Montreal Alouettes in the CFL, I am on off-season now and I just love working with kids and helping kids get better.

VM: Kinda feels like we are in Montreal right now with the wind and the cold?

CL: (Laughs) 45 degrees and this wind, not quite but it is getting there.

VM: TELL ME about your role in this EA Sports/Nike Elite 11 Regional Camp?

CL: I am running with thisĀ  Elite 11 camp, trying to talk to a couple parents about my Chris Leak Championship Football Academy in Apopka, FL on March 14. I have always had a passion for working with young kids ever since I got into college, bringing in the freshman and the transfers, teaching them about not just fundamentals but leadership skills. Help them become champions both on and off the field which is so important especially in today’s world with all the athletes getting into things. I wanna help them build character for a strong future.

VM: Good to hear you are working on both, that stood out during your tenure at Florida. I imagine your connection with Nike also helps with your own camp?

CL: Yes, I was in the Elite 11 when I came out of high school and Coach Bob Johnson and all the same guys are still running the same deal – they really helped me get to the next level and it is always great to give back.

VM: You were at University of Florida for the beginning of the Urban Meyer era which has put up an amazing run for the last four years – any thoughts about the immediate future for the Gators?

Championships never get old! You just keep working to continue…one of the reasons I chose Florida was to get the Gators back to being a dynasty, bring a national title back to Florida. The guys have really set that standard and to keep it going. It is still great to be a Florida Gator.

VM: Any thoughts on John Brantley (left), the heir apparent to Tim Tebow at Florida and a former Elite 11 MVP?

He is going to have a great career – he is a smart guy with all the tools and he is learning from the right people. He will have an excellent career and he will be one of the best.

Thanks Chris – go get warm and best wishes to you.
