Ohio State couldn’t do it.  Minnesota couldn’t do it.  But the Hawkeyes did.  Iowa beat a top 10 ranked opponent Saturday by beating Penn State 21 – 10 in Happy Valley.  Iowa, now 4-0, never gave up and when the 4th quarter began they trailed 10-5.  The Hawkeyes scored 16 points in the 4th quarter fueled by great defensive play.  Defensive end Ardian Clayborn started the scoring with a 53 yard blocked punt return to give Iowa an 11-10 lead.  Then as Penn State was driving down the field PSU, QB Daryll Clark was picked off.  Iowa took over and Adam Robinson eventually scored on a 13 yard run.  K Daniel Murray kicked a 31 yard FG with 8 seconds left to seal the 21-10 victory for Iowa.  Robinson ended the night with 88 yards rushing, 46 receiving and a TD.  Freshman Brandon Wegher rushed for 73 yards.  QB Ricky Stanzi didn’t have the best night throwing 2 interceptions and passing for 135 yards.  The Nittany Lions scoring leaders included QB Daryll Clark passing for 198 yards, 1 TD and 3 interceptions.  Chaz Powell caught 1 TD and had 96 yards on the night.

There are now three undefeated teams in the Big Ten including Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Michigan had a close one this week as they beat Indiana 36-33.  Indiana’s Darius Willis racked up big numbers with 152 yards rushing, 27 receiving and 2 TD’s.  Hoosier QB Ben Chappell passed for 270 yards and WR Tandon Doss had 104 yards receiving.  On the Wolverine side, Tate Forcier threw the game winning TD despite a “bruised shoulder”, one of two he had for the day.  He had 184 yards passing too.  Carlos Brown posted big numbers with 83 rushing, 61 receiving and 2 TD’s.

Wisconsin beat Michigan State 38-30 with QB Scott Tolzien passing for 243 yards and 4 TD’s.  The Badger QB set a career high mark with the 4 TD’s.  Garrett Graham had 58 yards receiving and 3 TD’s.  John Clay rushed for 142 to lead the Badger Backs in yards.

Other big games this week included Michigan State WR Keshawn Martin with 139 yards and 2 TD’s with one of the receptions coming on a 91 yard pass.  Northwestern QB Mike Kafka passed for 309 yards with 2 TD’s, his second straight 300+ passing performance.

Looking ahead to week 5, we have not one- but two more trophy games this week.  Michigan and Michigan State play for the Paul Bunyan Trophy, not to be confused with the Paul Bunyan Axe game that is also being played Saturday when Minnesota and Wisconsin meet.  Michigan leads the series 34-20-2 over MSU.  Wisconsin leads 35-23-3 over Minnesota.

Games to watch this week:  The Paul Bunyan Axe game with 4-0 Wisconsin traveling to 3-1 Minnesota on Saturday.  Ohio State goes to Indiana, both teams are 3-1 on the year.  And the Northwestern-Purdue match up will give the Boilermakers a chance to get to 2-3.
