BIG TEN 2008 ALL-FANTASY TEAM
January 9th, 2009 by Daniel Freer
You know your chances are pretty good making one of the FCB All-Fantasy Teams…when you are the top RB in a conference that is deep in that position.
And, you probably will be named our Conference Player of the Year when you pile up more fantasy statistics than your conference counterparts (of course…since we are a fantasy sports publication).
And, that RB is Michigan State’s Javon Ringer (photo, thanks IconSMI), our Fantasy College Blitz: Big Ten Player of the Year.
Ringer, a senior from Dayton, OH (Chaminade Julienne HS) rushed for 1590 yards and scored 21 rushing TDs (statistics through November 22nd games). And, Ringer was one of the nation’s most consistent fantasy performers this season…even when he did not get a lot of yards in games, he was always seen in the opponents end-zone.
Joining Ringer on the Big Ten All-Fantasy Team are
(All statistics quoted are through November 22nd games)
QUARTERBACK:
JUICE WILLIAMS – Illinois: Everyone already knew he could run (719 rushing yards, 5 rushing TDs in 2008), but, Juice really developed as a passer, throwing for nearly 3200 yards and 22 TDs.
RUNNING BACKS:
JAVON RINGER – Michigan State: (see above)
SHONN GREENE – Iowa: Greene last season was in junior college, improving his grades off the field. On the field, he improved his grades, also…leading the Big Ten in rushing (1729 yards…with 17 rushing TDs) and rushed for over 100 yards in every game this season.
KORY SHEETS – Purdue: Although the Boilermakers struggled in 2008, Sheets had a big year, with over 1100 yards rushing, over 250 yards receiving, and scoring 17 TDs total.
RECEIVERS:
ERIC DECKER – Minnesota: Decker led a resurgent Gophers squad in 2008, with over 900 yards receiving, 6 TD catches…and also ran for another score.
ARELLIOUS BENN – Illinois: This super-sophomore had just over 1000 yards receiving, and scored 5 total TDs (3 receiving, 2 rushing)…a key factor in the Illini’s improved passing attack.
DEON BUTLER – Penn State: The Big Ten champs were able to air it out a little in 2008, and Butler was a big reason…with over 700 yards receiving and 7 TD catches.
KICKER:
KEVIN KELLY – Penn State: No kicker in a BCS conference scored more points than Kelly did in 2008 (120 points)
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS:
OHIO STATE: With All-Americans like LB James Laurinitis leading the Buckeyes defense, it is no surprise that The Ohio State University has the top fantasy D/ST in the Big Ten
