BLITZindex College Football Defense Rankings for Oct 12
October 13th, 2009 by Vince Mullins
I had to rub my eyes – are those the vaunted Blackshirts of Nebraska at #2 in my rankings?

Sure they have played 3 Sun Belt teams, a pre-breakout Tyrod Taylor led Virginia Tech and Missouri in the rain – but the Huskers are playing very very well.
These are the items that the BLITZindex is designed to uncover with its non-emotional and quantitative construction.
Quick Notes for this week:
- Median stats: Yds/play allowed = 5.25, yds/pt allowed 14.7, pts/gm allowed 23.8
- Wednesday Night game has two surprising defenses; Boise (13) at Tulsa(17). I do not recall Tulsa being aywhere near the top half of this study in its four years of existence.
- Thursday Night game has two of the top ten defenses: Cincinnati (#9) at South Florida (#5).
- As predicted earlier this season, Georgia defense keeps getting worse, now ranked 102. Not the worst of the auto-qualifying conference though…Syracuse, Colorado, and Maryland reside in the bottom quintile.
Here are the rankings. See that 90-120 range to find solid matchups for your lineup this week. Suggestions in the comment fields are always appreciated.
