Our Swinging SB Nation BlogPoll Top 25 Ballot, Week 4 – Roll Tide

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Below lie the fruits of our labor – Jason Collette and I worked out our Top 25 on the podcast, here is the final version of our combination of resume’ voting with some gut-level feelings of inspiration.

PS – seems that the curator of the Blogpoll appreciates our objectivity while busting chops about the lack of “swing”. Much love back regardless. I might counter that we don’t swing much because we get ahead of pretenders that do not belong in the Top 25 discussion. That being said, lots of swing this week!

PODCAST: Vince and Jason assemble the Top 25 College Football Rankings

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

Vince Mullins and Jason Collette targeted this week to get serious with our Top 25. After all, there just have not been enough data points of games and “opponents of opponents” to get a feel for the realtive strength of one program to another.

We agree that five teams can claim the number one spot in college football, there are a few zombie 3-0 teams for whom we wait for implosion, and finally we carry the torch to promote the Ohio Bobcats for Top 25 inclusion.

Our Preseason College Football ranks for the SB Nation Top 25 BlogPoll

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Preseason polls have more political weight than anything – in the absence of games to judge one is left with speculation at best, blatant homerism and “analyst inertia” from last year at worst.

But that is on a high national level – you know we at Fantasy College Blitz have already projected out the statistical performances of almost 1000 college football players this year, so how will that translate onto the fields of reality?

Bias disclosed: My orange army of Florida Gators, Oklahoma State Cowboys and Boise State Broncos and promoting deserving non-AQ football programs when they deserve it. Jason’s love for Central Florida Knights stands out even among our already heavily-Knightro’d office.

Freshman Fifteen, Part Three: Top New QBs in College Football

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Fantasy College Blitz continues its coverage of the best the Class of 2009 has to offer in Part Three of our series, “Freshman Fifteen” . . .

Source: Jason Roberts, Osceola's Garnet Sports Media / Fantasy College Blitz

Moses Alipate, University of Minnesota (Source: Jason Roberts, Osceola's Garnet Sports Media / Fantasy College Blitz)

Moses Alipate, QB, University of Minnesota

Ranked the #2 high school player in the state of Minnesota by Rivals.com, Alipate is described by GopherSports.com, official website for the University of Minnesota athletics, as an “impressive athlete, yet very polished in the pocket.” He has surprisingly good feet considering he is more a traditional passer that a dual-threat-type under center, and has an excellent arm which allows him to stretch the field without losing velocity or accuracy on his throws. Rivals ranked Alipate the #19 “pro-style” quarterback in the nation, while the 6’5”, 230 pound youngster that played both football and basketball at Jefferson High School in Bloomington, Minnesota landed a three-star rating each from Rivals and Scout.com. He threw for 1422 yards and 14 touchdowns / 10 interceptions as a senior in 2008, completing 51.3 percent of his passes, while adding to his overall numbers 81 rushing attempts for 201 yards and an additional six scores. His performance in his last season at Jefferson netted him All-State honors from the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Associated Press, and the Minnesota Football Coaches Association. Alipate also was named to the 2009 Under Armour High School All-American Game in Orlando, Florida, where he went two-for-seven passing for 33 yards in limited playing time.

Big East + Indy Week 1 Review

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

It was not a pretty week for the Big East in the standings nor in fantasy as there were many disappointments all around. The best performance from this group came from a rather surprising source.

The Good:

Shun White – RB, Navy.  There are not enough superlatives to describe this performance. It is only week one and we might have the highest RB output for the entire season.  19 carries for 348 yards and three touchdowns – and that was with Townson playing eight in the box and Special K missing the game due to a leg injury.
