TE David Paulson is ready to be a #1 fantasy TE (Icon SMI)
Fantasy “Others” are the positions on your roster that get very little love or attention. Its your Tight Ends, Kickers and Defense/Special Teams. Basically, these are usually my last three picks in the draft. However, not everyone likes to sit back and wait so here’s the best of what the Pac 12 has to offer.
Tier 1 Tight Ends – Guys Worth Drafting Sooner
David Paulson, Oregon – With the dependable Jeff Maehl having moved onto the NFL, Paulson stands to be a primary target in the Ducks passing attack. RB LaMichael James will do the bulk of the scoring but we expect Paulson to be around 600 yards and 8 TDs. There is risk with this pick, as discussed by Drew who selected Paulson in the FCFI Expert League. Read the rest of this entry →
You can argue whether Justin Blackmon (Icon SMI) or Ryan Broyles deserves the top WR ranking - what should not be debated is that these are the top 2 picks of 2010 fantasy college football!
CFO (Chief Fantasy Officer) Drew Smith updates this constantly with news (follow him on Twitter @fcbdrew for his updates) – for a frame of reference here are links to his Aug 9 preseason positional rankings:
Boise State RB Doug "Muscle Hamster" Martin will tear up the MWC just like he did the WAC (Icon SMI)
San Diego State: Hey, did ya hear the big news? Air Force: what?!?! San Diego State: Utah is joining the Pac-10! They are OUTTA HERE!!! Colorado State: And I hear BYU is leaving too! COLLECTIVELY: {GIDDY} yea! now we have a shot at 2nd place!
ENTER BOISE STATE {STAGE LEFT}: Hey guys, I’m the new kid. COLLECTIVELY: {DEPRESSED} damn……..
Yes, the MWC is different in that perennial powers Utah and BYU have moved on, but really more of the same with the addition of Boise State into the fold as it is still a conference with a glass ceiling: No matter what, 1 and 2 will be some permutation of TCU and Boise, the rest are fighing for 3rd place. (I suppose technically there are two glass ceilings, ’cause the winner of the BSU/TCU game will likely be 12-0 and on the outside of the National Title game yet again).
The Horned Frogs and Broncos are once again BCS calilber, but there are some subtle moves up and down in the hodgepodge that follows them of interest to the fantasy crowd: Read the rest of this entry →
TE Michael Egnew is our preseason #1 TE...can he bring the stats?
A swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing and a miss. That was pretty much everyone’s strategy at the Tight End position in 2010. You thought you were going to get a stud when you drafted Kyle Rudolph, right? He gets hurt and his season is over. You took a tip on Virgil Green and go giddy as he explodes in the season opener. Then he does nothing the rest of the year…thanks for playing Virgil! Well, you are in for more of the same in 2011. The players you expect to contribute may struggle, and those you couldn’t see from a thousand miles away (that’s you Ted Bolser and Jordan Reed), will prosper. As we always preach when it comes to this position: don’t draft a TE early, play matchups, and don’t be afraid to pick a guy off the waiver wire when he sees consistent targets.
Same variables as the defense rankings, but flipped over to the offense. So we want low yards per point (YPPT) to rank higher as it takes fewer yards to score. And high PPG for obvious reasons. Darned if a lot of the same teams are on this list too.
