Senior Bowl Day Three – North practice report

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

As the dew on the grass dried away for the third morning practice session for the 2010 Senior Bowl , the field was littered by players dressed in the Blue and White jersey of the North.

Overall, it appeared as if there was a lackluster feel around the team. There was not a lot of intensity but that could be more a signal from the Detroit Lions coaching staff approaching this as a fun experience for these kids then an actual showcase and competition. Either way, the big names (led by such names as Tony Pike, Daryl Washington, Danario Alexander, and LeGarrette Blount) seemed to almost disappear into the background more then actually step up and show off their goods. NFL DRAFT…SMALL SCHOOL GEMS…WR Ramses Barden, Cal-Poly

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Over the next few weeks leading up to the NFL Draft, Daniel FreerFantasy College Blitz’s “Minister of the Non-BCS”…will take a look at some of the small school prospects (those players at I-FCS level or lower schools) for the upcoming NFL Draft.  Then, hopefully, on Draft Day, you will not be going “duh….what?” when your favorite team(s) pick a player from a school you have never heard of before.

Those who follow college football probably heard of Cal-Poly WR Ramses Barden (video from AthletixNation) late in the 2008 season, when he caught an overtime TD pass at Wisconsin…which put his Mustangs in the lead over the Badgers. Check out this highlight video and my analysis after the jump. Read the rest of this entry →

An interview with Chris Leak

Former Gator QB Chris Leak at the Elite 11 camp

Former Gator QB Chris Leak at the Elite 11 camp (Jason Roberts)

Jason Roberts and I woke up too early yesterday to check out the EA Sports / Elite 11 Regional Quarterback camp, but one benefit beyond seeing the next wave of QB talent was finding Chris Leak involved with the proceedings.

I grabbed him for a couple minutes after practice to chat with the Florida Gator all-time leading passer.

Vince Mullins: Catch me up with how your career is unfolding…

Chris Leak: I am currently with Montreal Alouettes in the CFL, I am on off-season now and I just love working with kids and helping kids get better.

VM: Kinda feels like we are in Montreal right now with the wind and the cold?

CL: (Laughs) 45 degrees and this wind, not quite but it is getting there.

VM: TELL ME about your role in this EA Sports/Nike Elite 11 Regional Camp?

Future Pros: Chase Daniel

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Missouri Tigers’ fans were very happy when one of the most heralded players in school history decided to forgo the NFL and return for his senior season.

That player, QB Chase Daniel (right, Icon SMI) , is on track to own every school passing record. He is also in a position to lead the Tigers in their quest for a Big XII and a National Championship.

The former high school wide receiver has done quite nicely at QB since moving to that position in his junior year. In his two seasons as the starting QB at Southlake Carroll (Texas), Daniel threw 91 TD passes and rushed for 39 more, leading Southlake to the Class 5A state championship game in 2003 and the state championship in 2004. In his senior season, Daniel won numerous high school honors, including EA Sports National Player of the Year.

Future Pros: Chris Wells

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Die-hard college football fans and certainly Ohio State Buckeye fans know all about Chris “Beanie” Wells . However, with regards to the media and casual fans, Wells has flown under the radar. Thus far, he has been overshadowed by the likes of Adrian Peterson, Darren McFadden and Rashard Mendenhall .

All of this is about to change. By this time next year, Chris Wells should be a house-hold name. Injuries seem like the only thing that will prevent him from making a strong Heisman Trophy run.

That being the case, the next question on our minds is what type of pro is he destined to become?
