Charity Pro-Am playoffs begin with lots of amateurs

November 2nd, 2009 by Vince Mullins

I led an industry wide project to set up a promotional Pro-Am league this season, and we finally have made it to playoff week. Between Athlon Sports, College Fantasy Football Insiders, College Football Geek and Fantasy College Blitz we are donating almost $400 to the winner’s charity of choice, something we are all proud of since we wanted to do something about all the economic pain out in this world.

After the jump are your top 6 seeds and their charities. As we approach the season of giving, please consider some of these great organizations and the stories of how they have touched our participants.

Guess how many of the Pros made it to the bracket? Just one, and it wasn’t me (hence all the Dez Bryant-Matt Asiata-McKay Jacobson references lately). Thanks to all the participants who should recognize that their wasted entry fee will not be in vain!

#6 seed – Beeb’s Bruisers – Nick Bibelhauser represents Louisville so he knew enough not to draft any Cardinals. Max Hall has led the way and it looks like he has done a heck of a job in lineup picking and free agent. Nick is playing for the Harbor House of Louisville.

#5 – Spur’Em - Clark Robinson loves him some South Carolina Gamecocks, and as a Spurrier disciple he knows his QB. We play two and he has Daryl Clark and Jeremiah Masoli. He would likely tell you his acquisitions of K-State RB Daniel Thomas and TT RB Baron Batch were the difference maker. Clark says his charity is in danger of being closed due to lack of funding - Camp Kemo of South Carolina is a summer camp for South Carolina children battling cancer and their families. Donation information can be obtained by calling: Palmetto Health Foundation at (803) 434-7275

#4 – Aussie Dogs - Erik Williamson is an Oklahoma fan and has patched together a heck of a lineup. They have yet to announce their charity.

#3 – The U24 – Ryan Worley rocks with the U and rocked most of the year off his draft to his Sanders division crown. They have yet to announce their charity.

#2 – NU Bugeaters - Todd Bennett channeled the Nebraska Cornhuskers (not the one that coughed it up 8 times against Iowa State) on his way to the Klingler Division title. We let him draft Keenum, Ingram and Golden Tate and here is an awesome roster with the first week bye. He choice is inspired by his mother’s 50-year battle with diabetes, so he will play for the  Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

#1 – One Man Wolfpack - FINALLY A PRO! Joe Arpasi of College Football Geek likes the Washington Huskies and won the Detmer division. He has three of the top 7 scorers for the season – he drafted Joe Webb and Jerrod Johnson then picked up NT’s RB Lance Dunbar a few weeks back who is doing his best Patrick Cobbs impression down in Denton. Joe supports the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.

Stay tuned for updates!
