Cooler Than Crib Notes - The FCB Cheatsheet Customizer Revealed

By John Huss | August 9, 2008

When we started Fantasy College Blitz in 2005, we had a vision of providing readers in-depth and robust fantasy college material. Over time, we have expanded our content to hit on both fantasy and mainstream college topics, as well as some NFL. At all times, we seek to be innovative and to bring our best to the site.

One piece of feedback that we have received over the years addresses one of the blessings and curses of this pastime. There are 120 FBS schools, which is great due to the number of games one can watch on Saturdays. However, it does make it difficult to rank players to fit all of our users’ custom league scenarios. Some leagues are all-FBS…some are just the Big 6 conferences…some specialize to regions. As you can see, the more specialized things get, the deeper we need our player rankings.

In the past, we tackled unranked players by answering emails or replying to requests on our Forum. I’m not saying those days are over as we want our readers to always be engaged with us. However, we have worked long and hard to reveal our latest asset for you as fantasy players.

Today, we are launching our Cheatsheet Customizer (codename Dadybase after its technical creator and tremendous friend of the site Tim Dady). The default setting is to include all conferences, but simply unclick the conference you don’t need for your specific league settings and the Customizer will adjust to only rank the players you need. We ranked at least 120 players deep at all positions so every school will be represented in those rankings (you should have heard Vince kick and scream when ranking 111 TEs).  Also, dates will appear at the top of each page to let you know when they were last updated.

This is our first version, so please provide us feedback on bugs or things we can do to continue to improve this feature of our site. One item from some of our early testers - the ranking digits remain on the all-FBS  set, even when some conferences were unchecked (e.g. Chase Daniel is #3 QB in Big Six rankings, but he still has a #5 next to his name when filtering out “mid-major conferences”).  Tim could explain the additional technical hurdles to achieve dynamic rankings, suffice it to say that all agreed it was acceptable to the old style of taking a sharpie to the names you don’t need..

Now, here’s your chance to look behind the curtain so that you can dominate your upcoming drafts: Cheatsheet Customizer

Following this, keep an eye out for the articles that expand on the cheatsheets. You can already read Vince Mullins write up on the Top 25 WRs here. Daniel Freers Top 25 QBs here.  And Drew Top 25 RBs here.
