Drew and Vince owned the CF Geek Draft
June 23rd, 2009 by Vince Mullins
Perhaps the title is a bit presumptuous, but we like our teams.

This was originally posted on June 12 at our friend the College Football Geek – he hosted his Expert Mock Draft the previous weekend with all the cognoscenti of our pissant emerging industry.
Interestingly, I got no love whatsoever from Joe Arpasi who panned two of my picks and praised none – and he ignored our venerable Chief Fantasy Officer. Geek’s Todd DeVries loved my Middle Tennessee heavy approach during the draft, but I suppose I cannot prove that…
Ten Teams, 14 rounds of all-FBS goodness. Gotta start 2 QBs – our commentary on our own squads and each others below.
Vince Mullins – FCB
Rd / Pos / Player / School
4.01 / QB / Zac Robinson / Oklahoma State
8.01 / QB / Tim Hiller / Western Michigan13.10 / QB / Dwight Dasher / MTSU
2.01 / RB / James Starks / Buffalo
6.01 / RB / Harvey Unga / BYU
12.01 / RB / Curtis Steele / Memphis
11.10 / RB / Phillip Tanner / MTSU
14.01 / TE / Mike Ragone / Notre Dame
10.01 / WR / Eric Decker / Minnesota
1.10 / WR / Dezmon Briscoe / Kansas
3.10 / WR / Stephen Williams / Toledo
5.10 / WR / Detron Lewis / Texas Tech
7.10 / WR / Mario Fannin / Auburn
9.10 / WR / Tim Brown / Rutgers
Vince’s take: I knew in a ten team league that I could wait on QBs, in fact I was prepared to wait until the final two rounds. Lo and behold, my bias and passion could not resist Zac Robinson in the fourth. Hiller screamed at me also, and of course I got the sleeper I wanted in round 13 with Dwight Dasher. Anyone who knows me knows I covet the WR position and am extremely happy with all my selections there. RBs are also solid out of the gate, and I think Mario Fannin maybe the breakout player of the year whatever position he plays.
Drew’s take: Qb depth will be a problem, and you need a WR2 badly to step up. Stephen Williams was a vicious reach in round 3.
Drew Smith – FCB
Rd / Pos / Player / School
1.03 / QB / Bradford / Oklahoma
5.03 / QB / Max Hall / BYU
12.08 / QB / Jevan Snead / Mississippi
2.08 / RB / John Clay / Wisconsin
3.03 / RB / Matt Asiata / Utah
6.08 / RB / Damion Fletcher / Southern Miss
10.08 / RB / Jeremy Avery / Boise State
13.03 / RB / Reggie Arnold / Arkansas State
9.03 / TE / Jamie McCoy / Texas A&M
4.08 / WR / Ryan Broyles / Oklahoma
7.03 / WR / Jerrel Jernigan / Troy
8.08 / WR / Lyle Leong / Texas Tech
11.03 / WR / Greg Salas / Hawaii
14.08 / WR / Dwight Jones / UNC
Drew’s take: This team rides on the performance of my upside-based receivers. I will be competitive on a weekly basis with that stable of RB and QB. Matt Asiata is the key as I seem to have him valued higher than all other experts – I think a legitimate RB1 in any league.
Vince’s take: Yeah, WR upside – the only guy with an CV is Jernigan but I will admit tons of talent. Any fantasy expert would lust for that RB group.
PS – Drew and I are accepting invites to just about any league where you need an expert – whither a czar or a chief. Email us at vince or drew [at] fantasycollegeblitz.com. We are really draft whores, we admit that freely.
